Getting a life outside of the WAHM world

Guest post by: Moon Loh

Article Overview: As a work at home mom, there are so many things you can do to get in touch with other like-minded moms who work from home. With the internet, it is even easier to build a network of work at home moms with whom you can regularly interact on a daily basis. You may also know other work at home moms in your local area and get together with them once in a while to discuss ideas and share your hopes and dreams.

Getting a life outside of the WAHM world

Working as an independent mom is no longer an isolated activity. Even though work at home moms don't go to a regular full time office and get to meet colleagues, they can build a strong network of their own either online or locally. However, is this all you want? Why not get out of the WAHM world once in a while for a breather? You may wonder if it is at all necessary; here are some good reasons why you should reach out for the other things in the world as well:

Connecting to a wider audience

There are a lot of people out there who are not work at home moms and would still like to know you. You may be so caught with your WAHM network that you end up missing out on some important events in your neighborhood. For example, there might be a community gathering in your local area that you could attend to extend your network. Even though you may not meet a single work at home mom in this gathering, you can still interact with other people who might be interested in your home business. Confining yourself to a particular group of people does limit the possibilities of reaching out to a wider and diverse audience. Reaching out to a richer, diverse crowd will particularly help those work at home moms who are into direct sales, eager to build a solid network base.

Making your presence felt

Work at home moms tend to spend most of their time indoors, communicating with their clients and interacting with online WAHMs. It is also important that you make your presence felt in your neighborhood. When you regularly attend local meetings and gatherings, people know who you are and what you do. This is a great opportunity to build a local network. When you interact with the people around you, they get to know of the nature of your business and might even recommend your products and services when the need arises. As a work at home mom, you need to make yourself visible as much as possible; social interaction with other people is as important as interacting with other work at home moms on the internet.

Opportunity to socialize

Stepping out into the outside world also gives you a great opportunity to meet other people and experience something different. Your life would indeed become very monotonous and dull if you were to only interact with online friends and do business through the phone or the net. To live a more fulfilling life, you need to get out of the WAHM mode and taste the life outside. Attending a community event is a good chance to meet other people not just to build contacts but also to experience something new. This way when you get back to your work at home business things will feel much more refreshed.

Work at home moms often need to step into the outside world to establish diverse contacts and reach out to a wider audience. Although the internet has become a vital part of our lifestyle, the world does not begin or end with it. There are plenty of opportunities right there in your neighborhood, and a little bit of change will always do you good.

Re: Just a simple comparison & contrast of our truths in crisis. Re: Just a simple comparison & contrast of our truths in crisis. - Hi, that's a great point. I used to think my life wasn't that exciting or good and these days billionaires are killing themselves because of the market crash thinking a million is not enough! Before you start thinking about your life, look around you. Think how many people would love to have the life your living. A lot of us here may not be millionaires or billionaires, but at least we are fortunate enough to live under a roof and feed ourselves each day, and being able to afford internet. If you thought it was bad here with the economy, think of other 3rd world countries. Enjoy the life your giving, because in the next life you might not be so lucky!
Re: Gap Between Rich and Poor Widens Re: Gap Between Rich and Poor Widens - What i believe about the gap between the rich and poor getting widens is a result of choice we make. Everyone has the right to chooce what he or she wants in life. You cannot choose for anyone. Check anywhere they say is the poorest in any part of the world, you will notice that there is still a rich person there. If there is no working knowledge, poverty and riches are everywhere but what turns them around is how you work on your choice in life. I read virtually majority who are rich in today in our world, were not born into the rich family. But they make choices to be rich using what they have to get what they need. Even in the Bible, it has been ordained that some people will be rich while some will be poor, not that God made that way but by the reason of choice everyone will determine what he or she becomes. What a good post we have here. Cheers!
Re: HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! Re: HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! - [quote="writer-ros":3ucfsvl7]I was very moved by this election. When you think that not so long ago blacks had virtually no rights - and now there is a black President. It just goes to show how things can change in a relatively short space of time. I think this is a very positive step for the whole world. BTW, does anyone else think there are some amazing similarities between this election and the fictional one shown in the fabulous TV series, West Wing, not so long ago? Is this art imitating life or life imitating art? Ros[/quote:3ucfsvl7] Hi Ros, I think it started with art imitating life, but now we are so influenced by what we see on TV, you can never know.

Re: Poll: Which would you live without? TV or Internet? Re: Poll: Which would you live without? TV or Internet? - Hi Evan, I have to admit that I do enjoy TV but mostly for sport or educational programs. However, I can honestly say that since I went on the Internet, it has changed my life forever like it has for everyone around the world. When I say it has changed my life, I don't mean it in a soppy way but just in everyday things like research, booking a holiday, shopping, renewing tax or driving license etc, all of which you can do online and that is before my Internet activities. Therefore I have to say in answer to the question, I would miss the TV but I would miss the Internet much more. regards, Mal.
