3 Unstoppable Marketing Tips from American Idol

So the new season of American Idol has been kicking butt so far. We all love judging the singers and picking out our favourites. We marketers could take a few hints from this show. What types of singers to you love? Do you love the unique singers or do you love the cookie cutter copy cat singers? See how this relates to marketing and keep on reading. 1) Be Unique

Nobody likes a copy cat. If you learn something new, put it into your own words before sharing it with others. If you continually copy other content then your followers will eventually find out where you are getting your information from and follow the person who is giving you the information first hand. You should not treat yourself like a sheep or lemming.

Would you prefer a karaoke singer or the real artist from a song? Be the real thing! The original copy is always better.

2) Show Your Personality

If you are sarcastic, witty, funny, blunt, honest or creative then let those characteristics work to your advantage. If you are doing video marketing then let your personality shine through. If you are reading off of a script then your audience will be bored. Would you rather watch a performer on American Idol stand there, not move and do the exact copy of a song you've been hearing since childhood? Probably not.

Your audience wants to see that you are a real and genuine person. Don't hide behind your personality. Let it present itself to your audience and you will be well remembered.

3) Wow Your Audience

You must go above and beyond the call of duty. There is so much competition surrounding you. Find out what makes you unique, find out what you are good at and get out there with your content. Show the world that you have something different to offer. Take your skills, education and mindset and put them to the test. You will not start out as a perfect marketer but starting is half of the battle. Once you figure out your niche and how you can have fun through marketing your business you will be a triple threat to all other marketers out there.

There are only 2% that succeed with their online business. Find out how you can be a part of that 2%? Next time you watch American Idol, think about who you like and why. Chances are you like their personality, they have a unique voice and they put on a pretty good performance.

Job or Business Owner Job or Business Owner - Hi Martin, I agree 100%. I think it takes some people the act of getting in over their head in business to figure that out though. I've also met people who try to have one foot in each camp - and that doesnt seem to work either. I just attempt to give people as much information as possible before they launch, or decide to close. Last summer a good friend of mine found herself out of work. while searching for a new job, she started picking up some odd jobs, admin work etc. She came to me and said she was thinking about opening her own company. I spent a lot of time with her outlining the pros and cons, and reminding her of how many time she has said she 'couldnt' handle my life. Some months making $400 and some making $40,000. I was happy to find out later that she decided to pass and has since found a great position at Kraft doing what she loves to do, with a team of great people. I think its important for those of us who really are entrepreneurs to be upfront with people when they are considering a new venture. Kind of like the bad auditions on American Idol. It pains me that somewhere someone has told them they can really sing. When it fact - they cant and shouldnt. Cheers!
