There are two sides of the coin to search engine optimization. The first is optimizing your webpage for its specified keywords. The second part of SEO is off-site where you need to build links pointing back to the same page you just optimized. The combination of both will ensure your website slowly but surely work its way up to the top of the search engines for its specified keywords. Some people will tell you that as long as you build links, no matter where they are, you will get good results. That may be so, but with a regulated plan and building links smartly will ensure that your page moves up the rankings much faster and has a better chance of staying at the top once it is there.

Not all backlinks are created equal. It will not work to just haphazardly spam the internet with links pointing back to your website. In fact, too many links too fast may result in your website getting sent to the never lands of their index or worse yet, de-indexed.

Do yourself a favor and play the safe card by picking up links slowly and consistently over time. One really high PR, quality backlink can be worth well more than 100 or even 1000 spam backlinks. Concentrate on picking up quality backlinks from trusted websites rather than just spamming the internet using easy backlink methods.

The first thing that you need to do is focus on your link velocity. This means that you will want to make sure that you are at least picking up a few links each day to your website when it is first set up.

Articles submitted to article directories over the first few months will work great. You should also work on varying your links by commenting on blogs, submitting press releases, picking up profile links, RSS feed links and even links at forums and other discussion boards.

Link quantity is also important and some keywords are going to require more links than others. Some keywords may not be feasibly reachable and will not be worth going after.

The best SEO link building strategy is to go after as many high quality links as you can. Look for guest blogging opportunities where you can leave an article on their website with your links somewhere in your text. Then build a few links to this page over time for this page to gain PR which will also push the most amount of link juice back to your own site.
