What can a good mentor do for you?

A mentor is someone who is going to help you learn something new. They are simply people who have the qualities of being a good role model. A form of teaching that includes walking along side them and inviting you to learn from their example.

Choose a mentor whose goals are similar to your own. Try to find someone who is on the same career path that you are. Sometimes you can find a mentor through a professional or trade organization to which you belong, or that you can join.

You want to have a mentor to help increase productivity in your business, to help decrease the feeling of isolation, increase your confidence and to ultimately increase your profits. He or she possesses the wisdom that only experience can provide. Find someone who has been there and done that already and can take you by the hand to show you an easier and shorter way than they had to do it. One of the most valuable assets your career can have is a good mentor.

Take the initial step in establishing contact with a potential mentor since you are the one who will benefit the most from the relationship. This will be your first step for them to get to know all about you, to see what your goals are. They will give you insights about keeping you on task, to provide the tools and strategies to meet those goals. He or she are sincerely interested in your growth, they will get tremendous satisfaction from your achievements. Mentors do not take you through a basic orientation and then leave you on your own.

You must find the time to participate in the relationship with your mentor. If you are stuck on something, do not try to tackle this alone, give them a call and discuss what is going on. Everything is very overwhelming at first, but your mentor will talk you through all your doubts and frustrations and get you back on track. These meetings will be positive and leave you with positive results.

Your mentor will give you invitations to industry events and introductions to industry higher-ups. Taking part in these kind of events will help you learn from others in the industry. These will be professionals who have spent al majority of their time and money learning the techniques that they are willing to share with you. This will be by far the motivation that you will need to achieve your potential.

The enthusiasm, dedication and passion your mentor brings to coaching you will inspires, motivate and empower you to achieve your life long goals. This approach avoids the need for discipline and produces great results.

If you don't learn from the past, you are doomed to repeat the same mistakes and have the same problems over and over again. Then, you will never grow and develop as a person. What I have learned is that by finding the right mentor and following her advice will help with your future development.

Why don't you decide to try it, too?

You'll be happy you did.

As an entrepreneur I've yet to find a good match for a mentor in my field of business but am always on the lookout. I was wondering for all the young entrepreneurs out there; do you have a mentor?

Go out and get a mentor Go out and get a mentor - This thread hasn't been discussed for about two months, and I'm surprised because it seems like excellent advice. Most people just starting out in business need a mentor - whether it's one or both of their parents who've run businesses of their own, a teacher or college professor, or even just a friend. Even if a person doesn't need help with the busness aspects, they might need to learn how to handle money - if they've never had a lot before, how to handle people, etc. So everyone should look for a mentor - someone who wants to be a mentor, of course!
Re: Simple Idea - Great Advice. Re: Simple Idea - Great Advice. - Thanks for the offer Cheryl. I agree with you that a mentor is important especially when first starting out. If it wasn't for the mentor I have I would not have been around for very long in the internet marketing business. Without her help I would not have survived at all. MichelleJ
Re: On Mentors Re: On Mentors - [quote="jvprosperity":2v0r5y3z]I've been blessed by having mentors naturally come into my life but if I wanted to approach one how would I go about developing the relationship and then asking them to mentor me?[/quote:2v0r5y3z] Hi Andy, From my past experiences, I find that mentors just gradually take you under their wing. I've never had to formally ask any of them to "mentor" me. For example, in "The Little Black Book of Connections", Jeffrey Gitomer says "Some of them actually want to help you and will take pleasure in helping you, as long as they feel you are both worthy and trustworthy. In other words, deserving" (pg 9). At the end of the day, the best way to get a mentor is to nurture your connections through mutual value exchange.
