Starting A Web Business - Where Do I Begin?

How do I actually start a web business? Where do I begin? What are the basic steps I need to follow? Can I do this by myself or do I need to hire someone to help me?

There seems to be too much information! Research, research, research - but then know when to stop and take action. You've all heard of the phrase, "information overload". I can personally tell you that I experienced this and felt sort of paralyzed after my research - which, by the way, is a never ending task. I was so excited in the beginning: "I'm smart and capable -this will be easy!" It all boiled down to setting up a plan and staying on track.

So how do you actually begin...? Below are some of the key actions to take when setting up your business.

Determine what you're going to market. Choose a niche

Will it be an Affiliate's product?

Check out sites like Clickbank, Commission Junction, Clixgalore plus many more.

If you're going to sell another's product, buy it yourself first and check it out. You want to be sure that what you are offering is quality. Don't represent an ebook or any other type of information without first reading it yourself. Make sure it is well written.

Will the product be your own?

Do some research to make sure you are in a niche that is selling and is popular.

Do some keyword research to find out if there is an interest in your niche and whether or not people are buying. Buy a domain name - there are multiple places to buy online. Choose the name wisely.

Legal Stuff - set your business up right What type of entity? Sole proprietor, corporation, partnership, or LLC?

Know what you need to know about taxes - You want to get into trouble with this one! Do you need to file for a business license or a fictitious business name? This depends on where you live.

Where will you host your website? Lots of good choices, do your homework. Build your website (or pay to have it built)

Will it be a squeeze page?

Will it be a full blown e-commerce site with multiple pages?

Will it be a blog?

Learn some basic skills:

Understand some basic terms

How to build a simple page

How to upload to your hosting site

How to resize images

Learn where to find images

How to use an opt-in form

Learn how to use google to search for what you need to know

Set up your marketing plan

Will you use email marketing

Advertising?

Autoresponder?

Now the biggie: DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE (a whole 'nother topic!)

Be prepared to deliver what you are promising and provide excellent customer service! The most important thing to do is to TAKE ACTION! You won't succeed unless you try. If you find you have done something wrong, then fix it. You can't break anything. Dare to begin your profitable web business!

You can't avoid it any longer! You need to learn how to use the World Wide Web to stay competitive in the business world today. Follow these simple steps outlined above to set up your online business

Business Innovation Business Innovation - Hi Simon If you can finish off the Business Plan and think about your strategic direction or how you are going to use your product to convince people it's a great idea, it will set the foundation for your programming project. You see, when you are looking for funding you will need a Business Plan and Strategic Plan that will convince companies to invest into your new idea. Has anyone achieved this idea before using another industry besides health and fitness that you know of? You should also design some mockups as a "preview" for your programming project. This will also help reduce your programming costs as everyone will know exactly what you want if you have detailed mockups already completed including any functionality you require. Starting mockups for websites and software applications on paper is the best way if you're not a guru in graphic editing software.
