Human Resources Jobs

Human resources jobs are like the pearl in an oyster – they are not extremely visible to the outside world, but without them, few companies would be what they are today. Indeed, they are often a secret weapon of the corporate world. Though they don’t directly make any money for the company, you can be sure that they are helping to build up its overall revenues. If you think one of these positions is for you, then read on to discover what they mean out in the real world.

In this position, you will be filling an extremely important and strategic role within whatever company you are working for. Your ultimate goal is to create the best possible work environment for each and every single employee, thus creating a productive and efficient team behind your company. This role is not to be taken lightly. To start with, you will be responsible for finding and hiring the very people that are working to push the company forward. You need to make sure they are not only qualified, but that they also have the interpersonal skills they will need to get along with the rest of the team.

Once you’ve selected which employees you think would have the best ‘fit’ with the company, your job then gets even more challenging. You need to make sure that these workers then meet the expectations they’ve been given. To do that, you will have to engage in a complex strategy of personnel management and training. This involves such things as developing roles and providing organizational assistance.

From there, your responsibilities extend into the more practical duties of making sure the work environment is a safe one for all the company’s employees. Whether it’s installing alarm systems or producing documents that outline employees’ rights, human resources jobs place you in charge of preventing grievances, illness or injury. You will also be a key player involved in corporate mergers and restructuring, ensuring employees adapt to the changes effectively.

Depending on the size of the company that you work for, you may have to wear all or just one of the hats described above. In larger companies, there will be a greater number of people appointed to look after, for instance, the education and training of employees. Likewise, larger companies can afford to spend more money on hiring a greater number of experienced recruitment coordinators. They will often spare no expense when it comes to this aspect of human resources, as they want to make sure they get the right people in the door first, before going to the trouble of training them.

People in human resources jobs have the unique ability to guide the direction a company takes while seemingly playing a minor, behind the scenes role. Do not be fooled into underestimating the importance of these positions. These people might not be bringing in the big bucks for your company, but they could definitely make the difference between whether or not everybody else is.

New topics New topics - Thanks Evan. A Human Resources section would be great. Information and templates for hiring the right people, training, retention ( always an interesting an useful topic), conducting performance appraisals, information on discipline and documentation, conflict resolution, exit interview information, etc. This would be really useful because most small companies don't have set HR guidelines/policies. Thanks!

[Suggestion] Human Resources Forum - Thoughts? [Suggestion] Human Resources Forum - Thoughts? - I just noticed about 5 minutes ago that there is no forum for Human Resources discussion. It may not be a large part of startups that are sole proprietorships, or even partnerships, as most groups starting up a company know each other, their respective roles, and the company really well. But as companies expand and become more successful, HR becomes an increasingly large contributing factor to a Small Business' success. Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? - Thanks for sharing with us Yinko. Steve Jobs is definitely a visionary. Not only his products are innovative in a technological sense, but he's managed to turn a tech-company's products into a lifestyle.... a lifestyle!! [quote:zfqoq43n]Fast Forward to today. Apple has the sexiest products in the business: iMacs, Macbooks, iPhones, iPods and more.[/quote:zfqoq43n] I think not only tech would be different (music players and phones), but ways we can think of marketing and branding. What Steve Jobs did was of course no easy task for the smaller businesses, but he did start somewhere. What I did not know was that Apple is worth about as much as Google. How do you think Apple accomplish what they did? In terms of strategy wise? If you could advice Steve on one thing, what would it be?
