Training vs. Coaching

Getting lost in the buzzwords of education and employee training? With so many terms and idioms, it's easy to lose sight of the big picture. Between in-house training and outsourcing, e-learning and classroom education, and various other terms, it's hard to imagine things could get much more pointlessly intricate. Yet the wordsmiths are at it again and the debate between training and coaching rages on.

Knowing whether or not a group of employees needs training or coaching might seem off-putting, even to the most hardened veteran. The fact of the matter is that employees (and employers) need both. Training commences first, implementing skills and information. Coaching is an ongoing process, allowing for the nurturing of those skills into something important. Training and coaching must work in tandem to produce the best results out of employees.

Working without the Other

Some companies use training and presume that coaching can be left to chance. This tends to produce less than suitable results, however, as the persistent learning process is curbed to save time and money. While budgetary concerns for many companies may leave the idea of coaching out in the cold, it is a necessary part of the learning experience that should not be so gamely ignored.

Much like there are training agencies and brokers, there are coaching brokers and agencies. These groups are available for a fee and will employ strong coaching strategies within the staff of a company. Most coaching groups will instruct other coaches, allowing the ongoing process of education to continue within a company. Using coaches from within one's own staff is a brilliant way to ensure that learning never ceases.

Employees often function under information overload, leading to many incidents of scatterbrained and silly management of time or services. Because of this, the concept of reliable learning takes on more meaning. Employees that continue improving themselves tend to be more industrious. Perhaps more imperative than the bottom line, employees who persist to learn on the job also become more satisfied in their positions and are more apt to be long-standing workers.

The implication of coaching, fixed with training, is not lost on many of the top companies in North America. Coaching and personal experiences have become the livelihood of many businesses. Life coaches, psychologists, and group therapy all have a place in top-drawer international companies, showing that an investment in the lives and minds of employees is a meaningful asset.

Budget. Budget. - I believe the biggest barrier is related to budget. Training tends to be a normal practice for a big company. But I have to consider it seriously as an entrepreneur.
Re: need pricing help please Re: need pricing help please - here's my opinion that was derived from the person I heard it from (Russell Brunson) I view internet Marketing products as a Ladder. At the bottom of the Ladder is ebooks and at the top is One on One Coaching. so the ladder would look like this starting from the Top ($$$) to Bottom($) One-to-One Coaching ($$$$$$) Workshops ($$$$$) Teleseminars ($$$$) Video($$$) Audio ($$) ebooks ($) I agree with this methodology mainly because of the convenience factor and value from the customers point of view.

Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - That is a great idea, David. This is what I had in mind for the Women's section, but it makes sense to post in on the main site. Of course, I'm waiting for some women to step up to the plate and share how they could use some support on taking the next step with their business! If you are a Business Woman reading this, I invite you to consider that this is not displaying weakness in any form. Peer mentoring and Coaching is incredibly valuable. You get to bounce your ideas off others, hear perspectives from outside your own box, and feel the power of others cheering you on. To me, it's wisdom to use all of our available resources to move towards business success. That's why I have my own Coach and my own Mentor Coaching Group. I also offer that to my clients. These are services one usually has to pay for and you could enjoy some of it free right here! So who wants to start? Can you tell I'm excited about the possibilities for you even before you begin? Warmly, Tami
