Human Resources – Beyond Applications and Handbooks

Human Resources – Beyond Applications and Handbooks

When we consider our firm’s assets our minds typically drift to state of the art computers, the building we purchased, or our fleet of employee vehicles. In actuality, our employees are our greatest assets. Our employees are our first impression on a new client. They are our technique and motivation tools. They are technical expertise and talent. Let’s capitalize on our greatest asset!

Marketing
Too often each of us encounter employees that, through actions or words, give the impression that our business is not appreciated. Each interaction between company employee and client is an opportunity to market your firm. A sincere and cheerful greeting indicates a desire to work with someone. Complete attention provides a client with feelings of security and value. An employee’s working knowledge of your company and products offers a client efficient service whether through initial dialogue or an expeditious transfer to the appropriate source of information.

Information
Well-informed employees save clients money, and ultimately save your company money. Companies grow, products change. Company employees, regardless of job description, should always be current on additions, substitutions or elimination of products and/or services, locations, methods of available company/client communication, and all basic aspects of each company’s division and office. An employee that is current on the latest company developments makes the most efficient use of the client’s time, and enables the employee to delve into other client issues and considerations thus improving productivity.

Communication
Informal workplace interaction among employees offers the ability to discuss products and services, and share experiences. Regular dialogue about company products and projects encourages a relaxed attitude when communicating information to clients. Establishing regular opportunities for informal employee interaction – weekly staff brainstorming sessions, Question & Answer panels spotlighting individual departments or offices, interaction opportunities that provide information, or Manager For A Day programs become viable sources of employee knowledge and confidence.

Capitalizing on the unique strengths of your employees will provide the stable growth that your company requires for long-term development. Through utilization of these suggestions your greatest asset will continue to move your company forward in a most productive manner.

My interpretation of Human Resources stems from the basic dictionary definitions of the words. Human: composed of people (your employees, ALL employees regardless of position) Resource: an inner ability or capacity; a source drawn on for making a profit (Employees are a wealth of talent and skill!). Managers often overlook this most valuable of assets. I believe that within every employee is a wealth of untapped knowledge. It’s my job to help Managers tap this knowledge. Once we’ve tapped the knowledge, let’s develop it, share it, and solidify the upward growth of our company! www.DaleLittle. com
