A recent poll conducted by the Society for Human Resources Management reveals what companies are offering to laid off employees. Survey respondents were asked to select their top three most likely actions. Of those who responded:

Severance pay - 74%

Extended health care benefits - 44%

References - 40%

Outplacement - 38%

Priority consideration for reassignment to another job within the organization - 33%

Survey respondents also listed career counseling, job search training, interview coaching, networking opportunities, use of office space during job search and skills training programs as additional assistance provided to laid off workers.
