Boob Envy, I Don't Think So!

Guest post by: Dia Sutton

Article Overview: Just a thought!!! I have been busy checking people's workplace dress. What is going on? Where do people think they are going? Did anyone get my message? While some may say my discussion is really about my age - BOOB ENVY. I say there is another reason why I keep coming back to this subject.

Boob Envy, I Don't Think So!

sIn my efforts to keep the youngest working generation gainfully employed, I would like to reiterate a general and simple code of workplace dressing. There is a certain group of people that I am addressing this to and you know who you are (I will not name names to protect the guilty). In several of my blogs I have mentioned the 4 B's of how not to dress at work - folks do not want to see your Boobs, Butts, Belly and Back at work. Unless you are swinging from a pole, or working at Hooters modeling underewear,or a strip joint, you get the idea. So I must repeat it again. No Boobs, Butts, Belly and Back showing at the typical 9-5 job!!!

I know what some of you will think. I am a maturing "Baby Boomer". I am jealous of the young women who dress that way. That my boobs are now beginning to droop and my bellybeginning to sag.So I must have boob envy or butt envy or belly envy or back envy because mine are going south. I know what you will think! True.

True, boob envy is real but not my motivating factor. I don't want my running to be in vain. I spent ten years of my career working for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. For part of that time, I investigated and conciliated charges of employment discrimination in the private sector. My job was challenging and sometimes very threatening. I don't want my running to be in vain. I have championed the cause for ending sexual harassment in the workplace. Presented to thousands of male employees why they should not harass women at work - that women should be treated as equals. I do not want my running to be in vain.

I want you to succeed. I want you to be able to pay into my SSA fund. Sometimes a person cannot be taken seriously when all their stuff is exposed. Most of all I want you to think about the following: Do the leaders, the real movers and shakers (not the play ones, i.e. reality, movie, athletic, entertainment people) of the world show their BOOBS, BUTT, BELLY and BACK? Or do they use their personality, skills, knowledge, abilities and political savvy?

I will eventually get over my boob envy. But will the image you project today interfere increating your brand - with you getting ahead - keeping a competitive edge? Getting Employed?
