How to pass psychometric tests

One of the most common questions I get asked is “how do I pass psychometric tests?” . For me, that's a symptom of the education system, where everyone is focused on “passing tests”. We are tested all through school as students and then through university as graduates. The schools are tested to ensure that our tests are tested properly. Tests, tests, tests...

Amazing to think that not so long ago there were no tests at university. The emphasis was not testing - it was on education!

And there is some more bad news - your psychometric 'test' is one test you cannot pass! In fact, that is because your psychometric 'test' is the one test you cannot fail. You cannot swat for it or cram. You cannot prepare for it. All the years of conditioning you to pass tests will not serve you when it comes to this, for the truth is it is not a test.

I know you don’t believe me. I can hear the “ah but. . . .”

But let me tell you this; you are who you are. Be delighted with that. Be content with that. You may modify your personality slightly over a lifetime but you aren’t going to change it; certainly not before your next interview.

So what’s to be done. Are you simply doomed to your fate? The answer is no. Your personality report is one of the most useful career development weapons in your arsenal. Get familiar with it and discover who you are. Use it to determine what it is you really should be doing with your life.

If an employer is using personality profiling it is to help them understand you a little better and a little quicker. You should do the same. You should know what employers are reading about you. You should know how you are coming across and prepare for interviews with that knowledge.

There is something else you need to know. If an employer decides that they are looking for a specific personality type and that type is different from what you are, there is nothing you can do about that. The point of influence was some months ago and far out of your control. You did not fail and you cannot rectify it. You cannot blame the company for not hiring you because you wanted the job and on the face of it were ideal for the job. You would as well wish yourself to be taller or shorter.

You have your personality in the same way you have your height. You can adapt your personality in the same way as you could wear thick socks or high heels but at some point you will look silly and topple over.

Animal testing and its many purposes Animal testing and its many purposes - [quote:3qh8zp9r]Animal testing is one the one hand abhorrent when used for products that are purely pleasurable (like cosmetics), but for medicines, I'm not sure. [/quote:3qh8zp9r] The problem with animal testing is that you really wonder if some of the tests they do are necessary. I remember reading an article about various types of animal tests - not for cosmetics or health care but just out of curiosity. A mother cat and her kitten were placed in a cage, each time the kitten approached the mother the mother would get an electrical shock. Soon, even without the shock the mother would spit and try to bat the kitten away... And I'm thinking to myself... why in the world would this reaction even need to be tested? Sort of self-evident that something like that would happen.
Re: Lists of do follow BLOGS Re: Lists of do follow BLOGS - Great tool. I did not know about it. I have just installed and made some tests. Now it's easier because I can search for blogs with do follow links.
Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? - [quote="GT Bulmer":ccjkc6fu]Hi, Kevin: Never pass up a promotional opportunity! But do try to be somewhat prepared.[/quote:ccjkc6fu] Hi GT, But what if you were asked to speak on live television about your business and to share advice... and be interviewed by a host? If you're not comfortable speaking in front of a camera, live audience and answering spontaneous questions (which is VERY different than giving a speech where you control the variables such as topic and questions, etc.) and you mess up by stuttering or looking nervous... wouldn't that do more harm than good for your business? And in that case, shouldn't you pass on that media opportunity?
