Employee Manuals: A Proven Way to Protect Your Business

It is critical in today's "lawsuit happy society" to protect the substantial investment of time and money that an owner puts into a business. If a company has even a handful of employees, an Employee Manual is one of the best protections that the owners of an enterprise can create to prevent overzealous litigation, be it from a current employee or a previously fired worker.

Regardless if your company has just a few employees or tens of thousands, all businesses need to protect themselves with certain legal safeguards. Publishing and providing all workers with an employee handbook, employment contracts and other standardized employment legal forms can protect the business owner from inappropriate employee claims and demands.

Further, employee handbooks, employment contracts and standardized legal forms permit the employer to set forth each employee’s duties, obligations and work expectations, so that there is little left up to individual "interpretation" should an issue arise.

An employee manual can go a long way in preventing unwarranted legal claims and litigation, while giving clear employment guidelines to those that a company employs.

In many cases, a company can use a "do-it-yourself" employee manual, like the Employee Manual software offered by Standard Legal to create a handbook that can be copied and distributed at a low cost.

Employment law issues tend to be unique and can vary from state to state. Should any issues arise that fall outside of the items addressed in a standard Employee Handbook (or if any specific questions or issue arise concerning the hiring, firing or other employment processes), it is recommended that a licensed attorney be contacted and legal advice sought.

Post subject: It's Not Personal, just business Post subject: It's Not Personal, just business - I so agree! Actually, the business world as we know it IS in trouble. I heard some stats last week that they expect by the time 2050 that 70% of workers will be freelancers. Employee/Executive Bullying won't be able to stand it when it could be easier for someone to simply contract with the nicer guy (or gal). I, for one, will be choosing the nicer ones!
