Effective contract solutions

Flexibility and beingopen to change is good. If you embrace this concept, then you go with the flow and embrace what is best for you and your business. I have had to do this with my business, adapting to changing availability of job seekers, the changing lifestyles of my existing team, my business needs and those of employers.

I have hired permanent staff, contract staff, temporary staff and I have some of my existing team on part-time contracts, due to their work preferences and our business needs.

I work very hard with employers to educate them on all possible solutions to attracting and retaining the very best staff (be they permanent or contracted) for them personally, their team, their business.

Obviously every employer has different needs and feelings, some employers have a permanent only policy, of course no employer has a contract only policy, but many companies hire both contract and permanent solutions, and these companies generally are the fast growing, dynamic and best skilled.

Many contractors choose to work on a freelance basis, due to their personal preference (this trend will continue to increase); the financial rewards (generally contractors earn 50-100% more than their permanent counterparts; and their innate desire to have a diverse work experience and different challenges. Of course there are more reasons, but these are the main ones.

What do you get for your money?

Contract solutions are not for every employer, but one thing is for sure, those employers that have a mix of permanent and contract solutions are normally the fastest moving and most dynamic.

Your Riskiest Business Decision Your Riskiest Business Decision - Greetings All I was just thinking about my own Graphic Design business and how I've made risky decisions in the past. One of these decisions involved taking on a long term, full time contract at the expense of losing new and existing clients for the next 2 years, as well as having to satisfy existing clients on the weekends. Would the contract kill my entire freelance business after 2 years? Would it be worth it? As I'm nearing the end of the 2 year contract and I would have to say that it's paid off. This is because I managed to run my own business on the side (weekends) to retain most of my existing clients so when/if I decide to go back to full time freelancing I won't have to start from the beginning again. In saying this I would like to know of any risky business decisions that you have made and whether it paid off or not? My 2 year contract decision did pay off but I also lost two good clients because I did not have the time to efficiently satisfy their requests.
Euphemism for lawyer? Euphemism for lawyer? - [quote:2irdstnl]It is also key to have a qualified person draw up a contract for any agreement. [/quote:2irdstnl] Much as I dislike lawyers, it's a qualified laywer you need to draw up a contract for any agreement. Would anyone else be qualified to draw up a contract? I only ask because the phrase "a qualified person" makes it seem like there is someone other than a lawyer who can do this?

Business or Personal Coachin Business or Personal Coachin - I have 4 year round business clients who come to me with business, accounting, promotional etc questions. I ask the probing questions and help them find the answers. I don't simply ask questions because they are paying to tap into my experiences and suggestions. Many times, sharing a positive or negative experience is a great way to illustrate possibilities and it allows them to see something that worked and then mold their own solutions. THis is something I also do in my business and promotional books. Ask questions that make people think, but I also offer solutions, examples and ideas to give them a place to start -- although I encourage them to create their own original way to solve the problem.
