Employers: Are you ready for the future recruitment landscape?

Having worked in recruitment since 1996, I have seen many changes in the recruitment industry, many changes in how employers recruit.

Let's start with technology, the internet did not exist for a start and neither did email. Recruitment was all done via telephone, email and fax. Now in the information age we have so much to digest, so much at our disposal, are we ready and more importantly what is best for us, what works for us.

It is well known in recruitment and human resource circles that the population is aging, terms such as baby boon generation (post world war two, born during the middle part of the 20th Century, circa 1946 - 1965), generation X (Born between 1961 and 1981) and generation Y (1970's to 2000) are referred to, and these generations are very different.

When I was young I remember my first computer (Atari 2600) with space invaders being advanced gaming, now children are growing up with iphones (with touch screens), ipods, computers and so forth, seeing and using these from as young as1-2 years old, WOW.

People's work habits are changing, how people search for a job is changing, how employers recruit is changing, the different generations want different things, have different values. Employers need to be aware of their target audience's views, their habits and their lifestyle choices. Times are changing, be aware of those changes, embrace those changes, or be left behind.

I came across a video by the Institute of CRF, which is short and to the point and makes you think about your brand. The video talks about the changes in the labour market, 2010 and beyond. The video emphasizes the importance of a good workforce planning, to be well prepared for the future in the second decade, and makes a link with a strong employer brand.

I hope you find this useful. If you would like to discuss further I would be happy to discuss this with you. The video is embedded in our blog article of the same name as this.

I am sure Shauna will appreciate your tips and whilst I am self employed without employees as such, your advice also applies to many of our online activities. I like your advice on recruitment, support and development which also sits well with affiliate team building and general downline support in many of the ventures that the members here are involved with, thanks again, great stuff, Mal.
Re: What I Read This Week - April 8 Re: What I Read This Week - April 8 - Thanks Zac - I'm still pretty new to Facebook but am impressed with the audience that you can build. You'll see that I'm reading a lot about social media to improve my skill level. The Google +1 button will be interesting to see how it changes the landscape - Google hasn't had much success with their social tools but they are now betting the company on social - the annual bonus of every Google employee, regardless of if they are involved in social projects, is now tied to Google's success in social so it looks like they're really taking it seriously.
