As an employer it can be a minefield when you have made the important decision, "I need to recruit a person for my team".
I would like to give you my take on this; I hope you find this advice useful.
My top tips
- Time. Do you have the time, energy and resources to attract the very best available talent? Think carefully about this as many employers believe that they can do as good a job as a professional recruiter that recruits and attracts talent 12 hours a day, 5 days a week for 48 weeks of the year. I can climb a tree, doesn't mean I can climb a mountain.
- Cost. A myth amongst some employers is that they will save money by conducting the recruitment process themselves. Think about this properly, as I beg to differ. Recruitment takes a lot of time: staff time (writing job a specification and an advert, choosing where to advertise the job vacancy, speaking with the advertising mediums to agree the cost for advertising, searching for CVs on job boards, or looking through social media websites, sifting through all CV applications (which can be in there hundreds, if not thousands in some cases), arranging interviews, taking references, managing job offers, ensuring an employee turns up to work on day 1). The cost you pay to a recruitment agency is inclusive of all these costs, a good recruitment agency makes recruitment simple and easy for all parties.
- Raise your profile. This can be done through either your own methods, or by working in partnership with a recruitment agency. We promote the companies that we work with (even more so the companies we partner with) on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. We endeavour to highlight why we choose to work with these employers, what makes them special and we promote them by any medium we see appropriate (including verbal endorsement, our website, our blog, our monthly newsletter and email marketing and so on). We also offer employers the chance of being a featured employeron our website, in which we summarise your business, highlight the job vacancies you have and why you are a special business.
- Management. If you use a good recruitment agency partner they will manage the recruitment process efficiently, so your input is minimal as you want. When recruitment is done right it should be smooth, simple and efficient.
