What annoys me most about interviewees?

Some advice from me for anyone that is due to interview. I have interviewed thousands of people over the telephone, hundreds of people face-to-face, since starting my career in recruitment in 1996.

Here are some major frustrations I have, I am sure other interviewers can add to this list:

• Arrive on time;

• If you cannot make the interview or accept another job, have the courteously of phoning the company to let them know;

• bring evidence to support your job application;

• know the job you are being interviewed for (yes, I know it sounds obvious);

• research the company and the person that is interviewing you (so easy to do in this internet age, so why do so few actually sound like that have in an interview);

• people lying on their CV (you will get found out); and

• Not dressing appropriately.

I hope this has been insightful and will help you, if you are going to interview, not to rub the interviewer up the wrong way. Yes, it is common sense, but worryingly a high percentage of interviewees still make these mistakes.

Body language and lying Body language and lying - Bill O'Reilly - a TV show that I don't watch but my father does - has a segment where someone - a woman whose name I don't know - watches clips of political interviewees or other people and gives her idea of what their body language is saying to O'Reilly. I can't really stand to watch O'Reilly, not so much because I don't like his views - as with most political figures I like some of what he says and dislike other things he says - but the fact that he rarely seems to let other people get out more than a sentence or two before he breaks in and tells [i:1ll81gh3]them [/i:1ll81gh3]what [i:1ll81gh3]they're [/i:1ll81gh3]saying... that just annoys me! But, for anyone who wants to see how the art of "reading body language" works, check out this segment.
Re: How To Twitter for Business Challenge Re: How To Twitter for Business Challenge - My biggest pet peeve with Twitter is all the people who send you an automatic thank you when you follow them, and how difficult they are to delete. I've literally spent an hour or more at a time deleting them before and it annoys the crap out of me!
Re: Same Window or New One? Re: Same Window or New One? - Hey GT, I know exactly what you mean. I remember when I switched over that was a difference in FF that I needed to get used to. However, after a few days I did get used to it and now on the rare occasions when I use IE their way really annoys me. Now I think tabs are MUCH better than everything opening in a new window. There is probably a way to change it but my guess is you'll get used to it in a couple days anyway so don't waste your time trying to figure it out.
Software Issues Software Issues - What annoys me the most are applications that are "improved" with new versions every year - that take out features I like and add features that are a pain in the arse to use. It's like no one ever asks the end user what would help [i:1g2xa9kr]them[/i:1g2xa9kr].
Re: Ads on your website: Where to place them Re: Ads on your website: Where to place them - [quote="Aquanaut":37z5dr15]I have to scroll down past those ads to find the text I'm looking for. When that's the case, I don't even bother to look at the page, I just leave the site, because that kind of thing annoys me. [/quote:37z5dr15] Same here
