Interview Follow Up: Thank You Letters

You got your foot in the door with a targeted résumé and dazzled the interviewer – now prop the door open with a follow up thank you letter.
A thank you letter following your interview is another opportunity to outshine your competitors and be the best candidate for the job.

With a quick note, you can show an employer that:

As long as your follow up thank you letter is timely and well-written, it can help seal the deal with a prospective employer.

What should a follow up thank you letter contain?
Proper use of interview follow up thank you letters can help “seal the deal” with prospective employers.Briefly mention the day which your interview was conducted, and move on to highlight important points you covered while you were there. You can also add things you may have left out during the interview and restate your qualifications.

What shouldn’t a follow up thank you letter contain?

Your thank you letter shouldn’t contain references to any awkward moments that may have occurred during your interview.

A follow up thank you letter should not contain any spelling errors. If you impressed the employer with your attention to detail during the interview but let a small typo escape on paper, they may think they miscalculated your skills during the interview.

How should an interview follow up thank you letter be delivered?

A typed thank you letter is best way to express your gratitude for the employer’s time and the opportunity to interview. If your interviewer has expressed a preference for online correspondence, or if you know they’re trying to fill the position quickly, it’s often more appropriate to send a thank you letter by e-mail.

An interview follow up thank you letter ensures the employer is still thinking about hiring you after you’ve left the building – and help seal the deal.

Thank you for your time. In this economy, a staffing firm is vitally important. The glut of resumes and applicants is NOT a blessing to most companies. In fact, it can take ten times longer to sort through them and choose even a few applicants to interview – wasting time and money. I am Catherine Palmiere, and I own a successful Manhattan recruiting firm, Adam Personnel, http://www.AdamPersonnel.com. I have worked with hundreds of corporations and thousands of applicants, and I am a sought after speaker on hiring and professional development. I have both a B.S. and an M.B.A. in Management and I am a Certified Employment Interview Consultant (CEIC). I can take all the pain out of your interview and hiring process only sending you the two or three BEST candidates for your position. Because I personally OWN Adam Personnel and Adam Temporary Services, I uniquely understand how difficult this time can be, and I will be happy to discuss the financial limitations and hiring dilemmas you face at this time. Re: How many nationalities are on the forum? Re: How many nationalities are on the forum? - Hi there, It is amazing the languages have come into the posts. Now Jude was asked, how many languages she speaks. Please, come and tell us. I speak English, German and French. German is my mother tongue. Some thirty years ago I spoke fluently French. Now English has taken that place and I can better understand French than speaking it. English is now my daily used language. German in second place. However, I never grasped the German grammar very much. Why? The Swiss German Dialect is nothing to be compared with High German. At that time hardly anybody wrote the Dialect. Today it is the 'in thing' to write the dialect. (Letters, stories etc) But we have to be able to read High German, because every book, newspaper etc is in High German. Finally, I guess there are a few more who can vote for their nationality.
