Cinderella and Passive Behavior
Picking on Cinderella will probably not put me in very good stead with the spirit of Walt Disney or millions of children and adults who love this fairy tale and its main character. But there are some lessons here that can only be described by being somewhat irreverent about that poor woman.
First, I’ll give Cinderella credit for being a hard worker around the house but after that, well take a look at what she did or didn’t do.
She watched while the mice made her a dress for the Ball and cried while her step sisters tore it to pieces. She looked on while her fairy God Mother made all of the things she needed for a night out and then she waited for the Prince to ask her to dance and followed that passive behavior by sitting in her house while he searched for her.
So much for assertive behavior.
The fairy tale ending in this story is, of course, a happy one, but this isn’t a realistic life outcome. Sit around and have others do things for you or wait around for a happy ending and yours may not be as “happy”.
Instead you can do the modern day equivalent of helping the mice, backing down your step sisters, asking the Prince for a dance and seeking him out later if he rates it.
If you don’t you may need seven little guys to bail you out…but that’s another story.

Re: Just Joined Today!
- Hi David and GT!
I know you both from my time with the PIPS & PPG forums. I am making an effort to expand the forums I attend as I want to benefit from as much wisdom that is shared in these places as possible. It was in the PPG forum that I first found out about Evan Carmichael and I promptly made my way over here to sign up and see what else I could discover. As for more about myself (since David is sooooooooo inquiring!), I do have a fulltime job in the television industry, working primarily in the Southern California region. I took up Internet marketing to help offset some recent expenses - my daughter had a Cinderella wedding 4 months ago! Along with her college expenses, I just thought there had to be another way to add to my income so I turned to the Internet. I started with SFI, then discovered PIPS, and that's where I am today. I look forward to having more questions and discussions with the fine people I've encountered!
Shy People,
- Hi Nikki,
Why are people shy? They can be either the Passive and Reserved ones or they don't want to be found foolish in the company of other people.
Often fear plays a role, because of what other folks thinks about them.
There are two groups of shy people: One group likes to meet people to share their concern and emotions, but they can also be critical and mostly reluctant to speak.
The other group are task people. They prefere to do it alone and have a
lot questions. I believe, the internet is a good portal for shy people.
They don't face direct intimidation, therefore they can express themselves without being ostracised.
Hope, that helps.
Kindest Regards

SES Toronto Day 2
- Well I’m off to Day 2 of Search Engine Strategies 2008. Here is what I have planned to attend today:
10:30am-11:45am - Search User Behavior
How do searchers interact with search engines? New research is constantly revealing how searchers act. This session explores the latest studies and findings to provide tips and tactics for search marketers to consider.
12:45pm-2:00pm - SEM Toolkit: Marketers Share
Competitive intelligence, keyword research, customer profiling, exotic analytics, and visual mouse tracking are just some of the tricks of the trade of search marketers. Guerrilla marketers on the panel show you the favorite tools in their kits. Many are low cost or free.
2:30pm-3:45pm - Web 2.0 & Search Engines
An overused and amorphous term, “Web 2.0? nonetheless encompasses an evolutionary shift from the typical web user experience of a decade ago. Some aspects of the “new” web environment are great for improving your search traffic. Other developments may lead you to make serious SEO errors. Among other things, Web 2.0 is about new user interface designs that speed up user actions with techniques such as AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript and XML), which allow users to perform operations nimbly without loading a new HTML page. This session will cover AJAX, CSS, user-generated content, and other new trends in web design and user experiences that may require a re-think of your SEO strategy.
4:00pm-5:15pm - Site Clinic
This interactive session takes volunteers from the audience and examines their websites live to provide general feedback about improving them to gain more traffic from search engines.
As usual I’ll report my findings after the day is through!
