Low Cost Techniques for Employee Recognition

Guest post by: Jennifer Loftus

Article Overview: Everyone wants to be recognized for their hard work. Recognition gives incentive for employees to stay loyal to their organization, and promotes their continued hard work. Although the economy has gotten better, there still seems to be some challenges in financially supporting some employee recognition programs. In this issue of Astronology, we will explore low-cost ways of engaging employees, and helping them to see, even in challenging times, that their loyalty and dedication are appreciated.

Low Cost Techniques for Employee Recognition

There are two types of employee recognitionto keep in mind. Informal recognition can be of a spontaneous nature, such as noticing a desired behavior and commending the employee for it. Sending an e-mail when tasks are taken care of well beyond expectations is another example of spontaneous recognition.

Another form of employee recognition is formal recognition. This type of recognition is helpful for those managers and supervisors who experience difficulty making employee recognition a priority. It’s easy to get caught up with day to day activities, and before you know it, a whole year can go by without formal acknowledgement of employee appreciation. Simply setting aside a certain month out of the year to celebrate employees, or instituting an employee of the month program, are great examples of formal employee recognition. An additional tool you most likely already have available to help in this regard is an efficient performance management system. Such a system can keep track of employee progress and goals, and aid in rewarding such employees when it is appropriate.

Low Cost Ways of Saying Thanks!

Through our research, Astronologyhas discovered some resources (for inspiration in giving employee recognition. Some of these include the following:

The point of employee recognition is to allow the employee to feel valued by the organization with which they spend the most of their time each day. Two of the elements on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needsare met when employers take time to acknowledge their employees’ hard work and attentiveness. Consider employee recognition as part of creating a cohesive, happy organization. Such an organization will have greater success in achieving its objectives. No matter your organization’s budget, spend some time giving employee recognition to those who deserve it.

Re: Finding AND Keeping Good People Re: Finding AND Keeping Good People - Employee retention or as you mention “Keeping the Good People” is one of the biggest challenges for any growing business. It takes a huge effort from the entrepreneur’s end. I can come up with the following when it comes to KEEPing the good people- 1. Motivation of the employees 2. Recognition of the needs of the employees 3. Activities to make the employees feel valuable towards the organization 4. Make benefits more accessible 5. Offer profit sharing incentives 6. Create clear career paths at the company 7. Consider telecommuting, job sharing and other flexible working arrangements 8. Incentives are essential and they don't have to be huge 9. Have other managers praise an employee's work 10. Be sensitive to the balance between work and private life
Re: Bad SEO techniques? Re: Bad SEO techniques? - There are few more techniques which also known as the Bad SEO Techniques or Black Hat SEO Techniques. Such as: - Relying on keyword metatags - Purchase Links (From Spamming or blacklisted sites or doing purchase links on high level for site marketing) - Horde Page Rank: This is one of my favorites, because it's one that most webmasters don't understand yet. This is because it changed over the past year or two. The concept people have in their mind is that page rank is a key part of site rankings and linking to other sites "leaks page rank" from your site. However, the world has changed. - Swap Links: Another oldie, but not goodie. Search engines want links to represent endorsements. Swapped links represent barter, and they are trivial to detect. Don't swap links for the purpose of building page rank. It's a waste of your time - Implement duplicate content - Use Session IDs on your URLs - Use lots of Javascript - Implement your site in Flash
Post subject: It's Not Personal, just business Post subject: It's Not Personal, just business - I so agree! Actually, the business world as we know it IS in trouble. I heard some stats last week that they expect by the time 2050 that 70% of workers will be freelancers. Employee/Executive Bullying won't be able to stand it when it could be easier for someone to simply contract with the nicer guy (or gal). I, for one, will be choosing the nicer ones!

I have one question, though. How would one implement Session IDs for a URL, and what benefit would come from doing so?
