Job Adverts – attracting job seekers
When it comes to a recruitment drive, you need focus on
writing appealing job adverts that reach out to those you need to apply in the
best way possible, and avoiding poorly written adverts that might see you being
inundated with completely unsuitable applicants.
Using specific techniques in writing job adverts, along with
being able to incorporate key pointers about the job within a small space, is
key to writing the best job ads. This is
especially true when faced with the little space in which you have to fill!
Research Before you Write
Carry out a bit of research before you embark on your write
up; take a look at how other adverts are being written, how they are spaced
out, and what key information other advertisers are including – you may find
something that you had not already thought of.
Newspaper or Online
Decide whether you are to advertise in a newspaper or solely
an online recruitment site, this largely will be decided by your budget but do
ensure you advertise somewhere suitable for your sector.
You can usually find recruitment sites that cover a specific
industry, a good way to find the most suitable site for you is to compare a few
that are well within your budget. Don’t
advertise a generic admin role on a specialised site unless you have to (a
legal secretary, for instance, could be advertised on a legal recruitment site AND a general site).
Local newspapers are always very good and already
established papers are perhaps best value and provide the highest distribution
numbers.
Once you have made your decision, or have chosen to place adverts in both of
these media, writing job adverts should be a little easier.
Write a Good Job Advert
Finally, writing a job advert should be easy once you know
your target applicants and where you are placing the ad – writing a job advert
for a newspaper is different to writing for a website ad, people read
differently online to scanning through printed media.
Put yourself in the same position as the person you see in
that job and try to communicate the main points first.
Include the description as the middle part of the ad,
outlining responsibilities with short term (daily) and long-term (weekly etc)
tasks.
Make it easy and clear for people to reply to your job
advert, including a postal address, as well as an email address, for those that
prefer to send applications or responses the traditional way!
If you are advertising a number of jobs at the same time,
include a reference number to make it easier for you when filing and referring
back to applications.
Writing appealing job adverts helps you to minimise on time
spent recruiting, whilst maximising on candidates that are well suited to the
role.

- I heard those kids went right back from where they lived before. The little boy even got beaten or something horrible by his dad. Something about attracting to much attention. I don't know if they were truths or hype. I hope it was just hype. That would be really sad.

- Hi Ethical,
Welcome to the forum, it's good to see new people getting involved in any forum and you have picked one of the very best. I haven't been a member too long but am a regular now because of the support and resources available here which are most impressive.
I see you work in the recycling of ink cartridges and I wish you well with that and attracting traffic to your site.
best wishes,
Mal.
re: angel investor
- Have you discussed your development with any SR&ED consultants? There are significant tax credits dollars that you may be eligible for research and development that has been completed by a Canadian corporation.
As for attracting an angel investor, do you know if your enhancement is eligible for a patent?
Re: New SEO Seminar
- Samin: I've had a very similar experience so far, both in attracting SEO professionals and in finding SEO article writers. Many of them claim to know - but when you ask for experience, a portfolio, or otherwise relevant certifications, no one has a thing. It's like this 'imaginary' field of work that people have to just 'jump in' to in order to appreciate it. You know what? Let's start an SEO Certification program and have it accredited. I'm sure we'd make a killing.
