Job Boards - A quick guide to choosing one

To make a recruitment campaign a successful one, choosing a job board from the many available online is an important part of the process. With just over 700 job boards to choose from in the UK, this isn't an easy task - so where do you start?

Directly targeting the correct candidates that will, eventually, be your interviewees is important as it helps to avoid hundreds of replies from unsuitable jobseekers - which in itself can be an administrative nightmare.

Word of Mouth

If you have already had recommendations from another recruiter is a great start. They may have already put in the time it takes to research a job board, the company who owns it and their success figures.

Search Engines

You can always carry out your own research into companies that are readily found on the web (if you can find them easily, so can jobseekers). The chances are, if they are showing up near the first page when you carry out such a search, they already have search engine optimization and marketing knowledge meaning when you place your ad, your ad is most likely to be marketed properly too.

Clicking onto various sites it will become obvious if a job board is already established and performing well, or you may simply recognize the name of a company when you see it show in search results.

Testimonials

Approach a company whose testimonials are from valid sources - a large blue chip company will not allow their logo or comment published on a website, unless it's genuine. However, just because a company that you know of has commented, it may be that at that time the job board was the best suited to the job role they had at that time.

Think about the job role and exactly where your candidates will be looking, try to think the same way as the jobseeker that is 'perfect' for you to interview. Good luck with your recruitment campaign and choosing a job board.

Re: What Do you Prefer More - Time or Money Re: What Do you Prefer More - Time or Money - My uncle is a travel guide, and his work is to travel, he knows I love to travel and see new places and asked me why I am not trying to become a travel guide myself. Believe me that I thought about it for a long time, then I went to Belgium with a guide and it came to me, I don't want to spend my entire trip talking to people, coming back to the same place over and over again. I love to travel, but talking to 50 people on a bus, everyday the whole day, what fun about that? GT, I agree with you, time is more valuable, money comes and goes, yes, I do want more, but spare time is a treasure.
Re: How can I promote my site? Re: How can I promote my site? - [quote="smithndavis":2qlpkdk9]Do following to promote your site : 1) Use SEO techniques 2) Use more backlinks 3) Get a Google Sitemap on your blog to help to get it fully indexed 4) Participate in Related Forum Boards 5) Convert some of your existing articles into podcasts[/quote:2qlpkdk9] Again, I agree with all these. The fifth point is especially good, I think. I'd add that you can also turn your articles into videos and post them on YouTube and other video sites, and then embedding them in your blog.
