AARP Health Insurance - The Insured Guide To AARP

AARP was founded in 1958 as a nonprofit, independent membership association specifically tailored to individuals over the age of 50 and currently has over 7 million members. AARP contains a plethora of plans, programs and services meant to inform members, improve their quality of life, and become involved in preventative health measures. AARP has established offices and programs in all 50 U.S. states, and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin islands. AARP is the largest organization for individuals over the age of 50, is known as a social welfare association and is known as being a revolutionary force behind the way older men and women view and live their lives. AARP is much more for their members than a health insurance company. There is an overabundance of information on life, wellness, preventative health measures, information of health care reform, and research on age-related subjects of importance, as well as prescription savings programs and individual health care plans.

AARRP offers a variety of specific health care plans. From medical plans, to dental, vision, fitness and wellness, hearing aid programs, preventative plans, ADT companion services and medical supply services.

AARP plans offer a multitude of benefits.

• Combined individual and family deductibles for medical and pharmacy coverage.

• Distinct deductible and coinsurance for in-network and out-of-network coverage.

• Plans that offer coverage for behavioral health issues, including substance abuse

• Limited co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses for routine exams

• Coverage on 100% of OB/GYN, mammograms, pap smears, and other routine, preventive PSA. Certain co-pays

• Waives the deductible for colonoscopies

• Offers extended coverage to dependents, domestic partners and other dependent relatives

• Waives pre-existing conditions with proof of prior insurance coverage

Currently, AARP offers plans with three tradition preferred provider organizations (PPO). The AAPR Premier Plan is much like the traditional workplace policy, with coverage providing 80% of the health care costs, and policies of varying deductibles ranging from $1500 - $5000 for singles, and $3000 - $10,000 for families. Co-pay range from $20 - $35 dollars per visit. The AARP Premier plans are a little more costly, and are reserved for AARP members who want coverage for their dependent children.

There are also High-Deductible plans that can be combined with the tax-sheltered Health Savings Account and offer lower premiums, but require additional financial responsibility on the part of the insured member. Deductibles are higher, so in reality, members trade lower premiums for higher routine costs. These plans are most beneficial for those who are self-employed and can benefit from the tax promotions of the HAS, and those who have relatively little health issues.

The Preventative and Hospital Plan are the most affordable plans offered by AARP, because they offer coverage for hospital and outpatient services only. Deductibles are relatively small, and members are responsible for 20% of the total hospital or outpatient services. These plans, however, should not be a replacement for comprehensive health insurance, as they do not cover routine doctor visits and prescriptions.

AARP offers a wealth of information of its members. From wellness ideas and programs, to information about the current battle in health care reform, AARP offers a website that is easy to navigate, and full of vital information of those over the age of 50 and their direct dependents.

Re: Meltdown in the Financial Markets Re: Meltdown in the Financial Markets - [quote="ideasuniversity":25hqys3v]So what happens to people investments with these three banks[/quote:25hqys3v] This is how I understand it. For people who have money in banks that are "FDIC Insured" - the first $100,000 in an individual account is insured, in joint accounts, the first $250,000 is insured. I heard today that investment accounts can be insured up to $500,000. But, for banks that are not "FDIC Insured" - the money is gone. There are some creative ways around these limitations, but the accounts have to be handled in specific ways. I have my mortgage with one of the mortgage companies that the government took over and so far, I've heard to keep making the payments. Shri
