Auto Insurance Companies Write Off High Risk Drivers
Any reader who has ever received a speeding ticket or been involved in more than one car accident may not be aware of the fact that this will likely put him or her into a special high risk driver category. These offenses, as well as receiving a DUI, have dramatic consequences for those individuals' insurance rates. There are four means of getting those insurance rates back down to a manageable level once they have been drastically increased.
The High Risk Category
A driver who is inexperienced or who is a younger driver has the privilege of being instantly considered a high risk driver. This is similarly the case for an individual who drives a sports car, an expensive car, or a fast car. Once a person falls into this high risk category with the insurance company, the results are not good. Such an individual then receives astronomically high insurance premiums. They might even become incapable of attaining auto insurance as a direct result.
It is not easy to escape from such a category once a person has been labeled a high risk driver. There are a few things that can be done though. These following four actions will help to ensure that the car insurance companies at least do not black list the person from getting insurance again in the future.
Knowing One's Violations
A person should always be aware of his or her traffic violations. These must be paid when fines are assessed, and not simply left to accrue over time. To learn more about this, one can go to the department of motor vehicles office and inquire.
Driving a Simpler Car
Car insurance companies are always on the look out for expensive types of sports cars. The people who own these cars run afoul of the reputations of such cars for being owned by reckless individuals. A simpler car will avoid this scrutiny and resulting penalty.
Obeying the Traffic Laws
An individual should always keep an eye on the speed limits and not drive too fast. Red lights and stop signs must always be obeyed. One must never consider driving while drinking or having taken drugs. Designated drivers and taxi cabs exist for these reasons. Not having traffic violations will keep one under the insurance company radar.
Going Through a Defensive Driving Course
Another way to please insurance companies is to undergo a defensive driving class. Insurance companies like this, and often offer lower premiums as a result. It makes them more confident that a person is not only a safer driver, but is interested in being a safer driver.
