Deciding Whether To Buy Personal Injury Protection for Car Insurance

Guest post by: John Clark

Article Overview: Personal injury protection is a form of car insurance that provides for the medical bills of the policy holder. The most common use of personal injury protection, or PIP coverage, is to pay for the driver's bills after he's involved in an accident, regardless of whether or not he'd caused the accident. However, it's important to realize that PIP coverage applies regardless of whether the policy holder is even driving--if the policy holder is simply walking down the street or riding as a passenger in another vehicle, PIP applies.

Deciding Whether To Buy Personal Injury Protection for Car Insurance

Personal injury protection is a form of car insurance that provides for the medical bills of the policy holder. Personal Injury Protection usually also applies to any blood-related family members of the driver and any passengers in his vehicle in an accident. Because of this, personal injury protection can be very valuable coverage, and it's required in most states that practice "no fault" car insurance law. In these states, PIP protects drivers in minor accidents, whereas liability coverage would provide this in traditional tort insurance states.

Adding PIP to your car insurance policy may be a good idea, particularly if you're not paying for health insurance coverage. For drivers with extremely good health insurance policies, it may be a waste of money. Personal injury protection usually has a limit of about $10,000, and while this can be extremely helpful in a major accident, if you have a health insurance policy that covers hospital stays of $10,000 or over, it makes little sense to buy personal injury protection if you're already protecting your passengers with other auto insurance coverage types.

To reduce the cost of personal injury protection, drive a safe vehicle and install optional safety features. Even something like side airbags can result in a discount. Shop around when looking for personal injury protection, and if your state requires PIP, know what you're required to buy before you go shopping for insurance.

New Norton Virus Protection features? New Norton Virus Protection features? - A couple of days ago, some of the software on my computer stopped working. I used to be able to use a PDF maker to convert word files to PDF...that no longer works. Here, I used to be able to see all the smilies on the right hand side of the page, when I'm writing a message as I am now...now all I see over there are dots in the center of a square. And when I [i:3hrut9ck]read [/i:3hrut9ck]messages, I no longer see those smiles, either. I never did anything to my computer myself, but I've got Norton Virus Protection and periodically it automatically updates itself ... and I'm wondering is some new update has screwed up my computer. Anyone have any thoughts on this???
