Private Health Insurance Resources

Many individuals often find private care insurance confusing. There are many aspects of health insurance that must be explained to those who need insurance. Patients have the option to select indemnity health plans, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs), high deductible health insurance (HDHP), flexible savings accounts (FSAs), and health savings accounts (HSAs). Health insurance becomes even more complicated for the elderly. They must consider Medicaid and Medicare as well. Medicaid contains a variety of plans that may become increasingly difficult to understand. There are many resources available for individuals who need help understanding insurance. Self Employed Individuals

Self-employed individuals are another group of individuals that need health insurance resources. These individuals need to know the types of insurance that are available for them. Many organizations are available that will provide regular seminars to teach individuals of their rights regarding insurance, as well as, any new policies, rules or regulations regarding health insurance. Many of these organizations will provide one-to-one counseling to explain the types of insurance available. Health fairs and conferences are all a wealth of information for health insurance. Individuals seeking more guidance regarding health insurance should inquire of the resources in their particular state. These types of events provide a wealth of information. For instance, Access to Health Insurance/Resources provides over 6,000 links relating to health insurance for actors and actresses on the local, state and national level.

Private Health Care Recipients

Private health care recipients may gain information regarding health insurance from their employer or the insurance provider. Many employers will hold conferences or meetings within the workplace to educate their employees of the resources available to them through the health insurance plan. For instance, many employers needed to explain the flexible savings accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs) when they were first introduced. Each year, the maximum amounts allowed in these savings accounts change, as well as, the minimum deductible. The insured party needs to remain aware of their options and the laws regarding what type of items are considered deductions on taxes. Many employers will provide these resources or alternatively, the insurance company will educate these individuals.

Insured Individuals over 65

Individuals over 65 have a wealth of resources for insured parties over the age of 65. Some of these resources are as follows:

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP):
