State Farm has several things going for them. They were founded back in 1922 and have a long running history for providing car insurance. They remain the biggest auto insurer in the United States. State Farm Insurance Cons

The downsides to State Farm are a few as well. Even though they possess a vast network of insurance agents around the United States, these agents are made to be exclusive with them. This means that they only carry State Farm Insurance Company policies. Their sterling reputation for business practices was called into questions back in the 1970's and 1980's as they were defendants in numerous lawsuits for both sexual and racial discrimination. Besides this, the company clings to its slogan, "Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is There," even though this is not always the case. Whenever they are hit with too many claims in a state, they tend to withdraw from the state. Similarly, when states choose to heavily regulate their insurance companies and the rates that they charge, State Farm has a long history of leaving the state in question. This began happening in 2001 as State Farm pulled out of the New Jersey car insurance market as a result of the state beginning to regulate its maximum insurance rates. Not long afterward, they pulled out of Texas car insurance. One year later, they withdrew from fully seventeen states.
