A New Kind of Resolution for Uncertain Times

Guest post by: Sheila Kelly

Article Overview: “The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” (Albert Einstein) At this time of economic crisis, there is a tremendous pull towards making decisions built on a model of data analysis and information gathering. We are, after all, in the Information Age … that period of our history in which there's been a global focus on the manipulation of information. Despite our intelligence and despite the wealth of information available, we seem to have hit a wall on the information highway. Something’s not working. In fact, it sometimes seems that nothing is working.

A New Kind of Resolution for Uncertain Times

There is not much that is certain in these uncertain times. Job prospects are in decline. Investments are in decline. Even gas prices are in decline … for now. In nature there is a concept called homeostasis, a regulator process for maintaining a stable, constant condition. Pundits agree that homeostatic equilibrium has economic, emotional, psychological and environmental dimensions, as well. What this means is that we are constantly seeking homeostasis or what some might call balance … that place in the middle rather than extremes. Economically and culturally speaking, we are experiencing an extreme … a place in which the ability to regulate homeostasis has swung out of control. We are, in fact, being called to stop and have a hard look at where we’ve been and, more importantly, where we are going.
The heart is one tool that is available to us; it is a natural regulator for returning to personal, economic and cultural homeostasis. The heart knows. It has wisdom and is in constant communication with the brain. We need only stop, focus, and integrate heart wisdom with brain intelligence to access out-of-the-box solutions. Out-of-the-heart solutions allow people to:
• Focus on what’s really, really, really important;
• Feel more comfortable in their own skin;
• Gain clarity and confidence;
• Lead with courage and certainty.
Imagine what would be different if we all remembered to act from what we know in our hearts.
What would be different if we took a moment to look within and to ask? “What is really, really, really important for me to remember today?” What we focus on today shapes our future.

Re: New Year Resolutions... Re: New Year Resolutions... - My New Years Resolution is to be earning $500+ with my online business. This includes any freelance work that I do. I'm about half-way there now. Another Resolution is to look into selling more on eBay and maybe finding a reputable dropshipper that offers competitive pricing on high-demand items. I like eBay and the opportunity that it provides. I've mainly been selling personal items, but I'd like to start tapping into a larger market and making some significant income on eBay.

And when you're selling items on eBay from a reputable dropshipper... do you think it's still important to pick a product you're passionate about (like what an entrepreneur would normally do when starting a business)? Or is it just about moving a popular item for profit on eBay?

I would say yes, pick products that you have an interest in. That's the best option if you're going to like what you do. Hopefully you can find a balance between products you're interested in and products that are in high demand.
Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... - [quote="Sebastien":1d29sdv1]Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
Does a New Company need a "Big" PR firm? Does a New Company need a "Big" PR firm? - I've started work with a brand new company that is going to do loss mitigation. My boss intends to hire a "big" PR firm - ie one that costs a lot of money - because he wants press releases sent out to the New York Times, the LA Times - all the major papers around the country - and he think they'll be more likely to print them if they come from a "big" firm as opposed to a one-person PR firm. I think it doesn't matter where the press release comes from as long as its well written. What are the opinions here?
