Leadership Transformation

Written by: Julwel Kenney

Article Overview: It is imperative that leaders go through a personal transformation process in order to bring about effective change within an organization. People, productivity, and profitability are the tools that make an organization successful. Through personal transformation, you will understand that you can be wounded and still learn from your mistakes. You will learn how to forgive yourself and others. You will learn to deal with reality while being comfortable with changes. Most importantly, you will create and motivate movement, as well as positive changes not only in yourself, but also in the people around you, and in your environment.

Leadership Transformation

One may ask, “I am a leader in my organization? How can I bring forth positive and effective change?”

Leadership is a process that is learned through experiences, education, and skills. Today leaders are learning that in order to be effective and respected in their organizations, one must demonstrate integrity, trust, honesty, knowledge, motivation, communication, equality, vision, and collaboration. Leadership transformation of an individual is a lifetime process. Leaders are not born, but are made through various life experiences and opportunities. Leadership transformation requires continual development of the your “state of mind”. After you have gone through a personal transformation, then you can prepare an organization for an internal transformation. This requires you to stay on the cutting-edge to remain both aware and open to infinite possibilities that are present in an environment of continual interactions and change.

One very important characteristic and challenge of leadership is to be able to control and know oneself—“Mastering You.”, which is the root of effective leadership. So ask yourself one question, and answer it honestly, “How Well Do I Know Myself?” such as moods, emotions, likes, dislikes, insecurities, hot buttons, weaknesses, strengths, etc. You will be surprised that many leaders spend so much time working, being task-driven, helping others, achieving their goals that they don’t even take time to know who they really are. Money and success are their ultimate ambition and goals that drive them. Therefore, when unexpected challenges arise that shakes their world, they are astonished and embarrassed how they handled the situation. As a result, this series will deal with the journey to personal transformation and leadership.

You can’t lead effectively without knowing who you are and being secure with who you have become; otherwise, you will become intimidated by individuals that know and achieved more than you. You will no longer lead but dictate, dominate, manipulate, and interrogate. You will do whatever it takes to achieve your goals and will demote, belittle, and stop anyone that gets in your way.

When leaders know, understand, and are secure with themselves then they can create an environment of change and motivate movement within their organization and teams. These leaders have gone through a transformation and metamorphous process that have allowed them to be able to create a positive environment and bring forth effective change.

My book entitled “How To Bring Out The Best In You” elaborates on the personal journey to transformation and leadership in unfathomable details. It discusses the internal transformation process of:
• Introspection
• Being able to live in the question
• Being flexible
• Being receptive
• Being vulnerable
• Being ethical
• Being able to forgive yourself and others
• Learning how to master you

This book will revolutionize your thinking and transform your life so that you could grow through limps and bounds to create positive change, movement, and motivation in your organization.

Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - Hi Everyone, Gosh, I REALLY appreciate your concrete feedback. This was far more than I expected and I'm glad you said what you thought straight out. Each of you have shared something of value and I want to take some more time to think and really go over what each of you have said. However, I can see there are some things I need to change right away. What an interesting point about a NEW program perhaps making people think they are guinea pigs! This is NOT what I want to convey! It's funny how we can see some things so clearly in others while not always seeing it for ourselves! I must admit there are a few things I've been meaning to change (like my bio which is very outdated). Obviously, these things need to be higher on my priority list. You caught me like the plumber who puts his clients first and doesn't get around to fixing his own tap! As far as my target market, I do feel quite strongly about working with Women Leaders and doing Leadership Coaching with them. It's non-negotiable in my books. In my Executive Coaching training, the terms "Leaders" and "Executives" are interchangable. To me, an Executive is a Leader and so is the Business Woman or Entrepreneur who is CEO of her own business. I love working with decision makers! What I did learn is that I need to avoid opening up the Leadership term beyond what I described above. I'm also wondering if there is a misunderstanding with the general public as to what Leadership Coaching really is. Leadership Coaching is all about developing your leadership skills, both as a people manager and in more effectively running and growing the business. There is ALWAYS room for growth in some way. As well, sometimes, we just need a sounding board to clarify what our next BEST step is. In fact, if a woman thinks she has nothing to work on, then we aren't a good Client/Coach fit anyway. How can she grow if she doesn't see the value of expressing ALL of the great ability within her? How can her company grow if she doesn't see the value of strategic planning for the next best level? Thanks again to you all! I will go back to my website and really question whether I am conveying the right message. I got more than I bargained for in this Spotlight... you generously offered way more than I was asking. I think we could be on to something great for the Forum. Now it's time to let someone else have the spotlight. It would be great if everyone took a turn! In gratitude, Tami

Why A Project Fails? Why A Project Fails? - Hello Everyone As the size and complexity of ones business grows, so does their need to effectively manage projects. I have been thinking about the major reasons why a project can go wrong and my limited experience comes up with the following. 1 Leadership: A project manager with leadership skills and not just management skills. 2 Failure to (Foresee and) Plan 3 Failure to Manage: Ineffective change management control methods. Unclear decision making guidelines. 4 Talent: Finding, allocating and developing people 5 Scope: Setting an overly ambitious or amibigious project scope 6 Alignment: When projects are not prioritized in alignment with the business strategy, or project members personal objectives are not in tandem with that of the project / company 7 Lack of Candor: Communication Breakdowns I would be interested in knowing everyone's thoughts on this, especially on ways to overcome the above mentioned obstacles. Cheers!
