'There is nothing noble in being superior to others. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self;', says an ancient Indian proverb) That, however, requires a Leader to be willing to conquer himself first, or, as Sir Edmund Hillary put it: 'It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves!'

In 1963, the meteorologist Edward Lorenz claimed and proved that the flapping of a butterfly's wings in Singapore could effect a hurricane in North Carolina. In science, the butterfly effect is a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. Small variations of the initial condition of a dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behaviour of the system.
Your company is also a dynamical (cybernetic) system and therefore small acts can have major consequences. This is especially true for all human behaviour. If a leader lives and stands for the company’s values, so will all the people he or she leads. If leaders fail in this respect for reasons of lack of self-awareness, personal selfishness, greed etc you can observe how the flapping of the leader’s wings cause a hurricane of destruction not only within the company, but also with customers and society at large. So, take good cake of your company's values; define them diligently and live them every step of the way.
