Effective Coaching and YOU
There are many coaching techniques out there and most of them appear to work well. Here is one method that we like to use, and when introduced to our clients, create a positive trickle effect:
M.A.S.T.E.R, this is how we like to call it!
This technique offers the “receiver” or “coached” 100% control over his/her potential. The acronym stands for Motivation + Ability + Strategy = Time bound effective rewards. In laymen terms, this means that when you are preparing to meet with one of your employees for a coaching session, he/she has to demonstrate for starters a fair degree of motivation to perform the job and ability to do it well, flanked with the strategical direction in which you steer the employee when you share your objectives. Combine all of these and you get the employee to create his/her own small objectives in order to get to the bigger ones, thus creating effective rewards (personal growth of ability and skills).
That you could easily measure with time (time bound). This method provides the individual delivering the coaching with specific goals and building blocks to work with, and the individual coached, the necessary tools to assess his/her own strengths and weaknesses and abilities to meet the desired objectives.
I always tell my clients that coaching should never be perceived as an “extra” task to perform, rather a joyful meeting during which the employee and yourself engage in a mutual agreement to work together in the mutual achievement of owns goals and development of owns skills to better perform—Did you note how we just closed the circle? AND we used the word mutual twice.
Coaching employees should always be a work in progress, during which the involved individuals learn to hone their own skills in the direction of a single objective: the organization in which they both work! -
