Leadership Strategy - Change Your Mind to Take the Lead
Leadership Strategy - Change Your Mind to Take the Lead
Your mind is a beautiful vessel and holds the key to opening doors to opportunities. Opportunities you are destined to pursue. But what frequently happens is that the vessel of your mind is filled with aging memories, habits, characteristics, perspectives and false beliefs that are frequently kept into existence with expectations of creating different circumstances. Expecting something different without change is unrealistic.
When conditions are thrust upon you to change, such as losing a job, divorce, death of a loved one, or illness it goes without saying that the way things use to be have shifted traumatically. At first there is disbelief and anger, which is fear based. Who doesn’t get fearful when the carpet is pulled from under their feet and faced with the unknown? I know all too well what it is like to be faced with each of the aforementioned life changing events. Fear runs rampant asking, “What am I going to do? How am I going to make it?" Answers based on fear cause more stress and anxieties and leave you feeling hopeless.
Fear can spiral leaving you on the edge of depression, but somewhere in the spiraling or even before there is a call to answer. It is your call to shift and transform to a new chapter in your life. You are meant to awaken to your heart’s desire. Unfortunately, it often takes an earth shaking event to get your attention. The change is actually your ticket to possibilities which have been collecting dust in the crevices of your mind, but they are there.
There are no guarantees in life that if you follow one path and not another that it is the right path. However, living in the future from the past is like a hamster on one of those toy wheels that just keep spinning in place going no place! The right path is self-awareness in training your mind by listening to your emotional guidance system.
Questions to Ask During Transition:
1. What am I afraid of?
2. What will it serve me to live in fear?
3. What can I control?
4. What can I not control?
5. How committed am I to self-awareness in reaching the success I am meant to have?
Tips to Train Your Mind:
• Be the Observer of your thoughts. When you are the Observer you are noticing without judgment or criticism. It is like being a fly on the wall. From this position observe emotions influencing your decisions.
• Your emotions are your compass that helps in training your mind. When you are feeling fearful observe limiting thoughts keeping you stuck. One of the ways I kept fear at bay during chemo treatments was to keep my mind feeling good with positive beliefs and actions. I remember taking animal medicine cards to play with the nurses and stuffed animals with me during treatments.
• Worrying about the how is often a trap from the inner saboteur. It is difficult to know the how until you know where you are going. Use the imagination of your mind to begin developing your next life’s chapter. A suggestion might be to look at interrupted dreams that you put aside for a later time.
• There is a process to change from where you are to where you want to go. This takes training your mind consciously through self-leadership, which is in your control. It is like building a new software program. The old software is being reused over and over again producing the same results. You may take action steps by changing jobs or relationships, but, if you haven’t grown in self-leadership toward self-awareness, you are still applying the old software.
• Remember: Change you thinking and Anything Is Possible!
