Self-Leadership Success - How to Mend an Interrupted Dream

"Yesterday's success formula is often today's obsolete dogma...We must continually challenge the past so that we can renew ourselves each day."-Sumantra Ghoshal (1948-2004) Indian management theorist & academic When I wrote the title for this article, it got me wondering if one can mend a dream. (I sometimes write a title that comes to my mind intuitively and it starts my writing process.) I am thinking specifically of our dreams during sleep. I do not have an awareness of my dreams during slumber. On the rare occasion where I do see dreams during sleep and it gets interrupted, I want to go back to the dream to see the outcome. But it doesn't happen. It is gone!

The dream is gone. It is part of the past. Who hasn't had their dreams interrupted! Who hasn't seen their dreams of a better lifestyle go to pieces? Who hasn't been a victim of ill health? Who hasn't seen loved ones depart? Life is a mystery. The galaxies are a mystery. Dreams are a mystery. I don't know about you, but I like a good mystery. Dreams are about the mystery of your journey with all the twists and turns, the good times, the sad times, the beauty and the passion of thriving and playing full out.

Should you languish over the past and try to relive it, you can't! Nothing stays the same. You may want to hold onto what once was, but the dream as you remember it is gone. That isn't to say you should ignore the wonderful memories and attributes of your past dream. These qualities which are still alive can be used to mend the interrupted dream to new wonders and possibilities.

During this time in history many dreams have been interrupted, which cannot be relived. But new dreams can be activated drawing from the past and creating new possibilities. It is never too late to start again. After all what is the alternative? Do nothing and give your power away to limited thinking? I don't think so! It is too high a cost to pay when you have the power to turn things around.

Eleanor Roosevelt was the First Lady of the United States during World War II where unimaginable interrupted dreams existed globally and personally. However, that didn't stop her from being a human rights activist, author, speaker and taking the high road during a difficult marriage. She said and proved "You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

TIPS to Mend an Interrupted Dream:

An interrupted dream is interrupted only to begin fresh from where it left off allowing new dreams the space to grow by pruning what no longer serves the new dream.

Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? - Great post. I love biographies. My favorite book is The Magic of Thinking Big. It's such a quick, easy read. But the big take away message is you should dream big because most people don't bother to dream big and actually try big. The book cites the example of a job posting for an executive position gets far fewer responses than a job for a mid level manager or a mailroom clerk. So Dream Big & Do Big because most people won't. Off to get the Zappos book.
Re: What inspires you? Re: What inspires you? - Inspiration is nothing it is what you called to do? Some work for money, some work for satisfaction, some work because they have priorities in life. It is the passion to do something for achievement or to show that you can do it by using one's talent. I know there are people who are doing great things with their limited skill sets. So, my view point about inspiration is to Dream Big and try to achieve it. I would rather add "Listen to your self". Listen to Inner guide and follow it. You will reach great heights. Robert
