The Two Primary Self-Leadership Errors Made in Transition
"The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it."-Marcus Aurelius (121-180) Roman Emperor
Who hasn't experienced difficulties that seemed insurmountable? When circumstances interrupt one's comfort zone of living, they can cause multiple transitions, which may feel like you're being pushed into a corner where there seems to be no way out. The corner looks dreary, hopeless, and dark with no solutions to problems taking over your life. Maybe you tried everything you could think of and still found no resolution.
Maybe you are someone who is seeking employment because you may have been a casualty in this horrific economic environment; or you are in a working environment you dread going to each day; or you are ready to go for higher stakes in building your own business.
Confidence gets challenged when moving forward into the unknown. At first there may be joy in looking forward to a new future, but as time goes by with slow results it is not unusual for fear, frustration, worry and anxiety to run rampant in your mind. When negative thoughts are the primary ones in your thinking, everything is a struggle from getting up in the morning to doing the simplest routines. You rack your brain for answers only to come up with the same old - same old results: going nowhere. You feel like you are going in circles like a hamster spinning around the exercise wheel in its cage.
Usually there are two primary reasons answers are not surfacing:
1. Regardless of the circumstances while experiencing change your thoughts play a huge part in whether you succeed or not. If you allow thoughts to run a marathon of false beliefs such as:
• I can't
• I don't know how
• I am not good enough
• Nobody wants what I have
• I've tried everything I know, nothing works
• I am too young/old
...you will accomplish exactly what you believe. These harmful thoughts are powerful forces that lead downhill in the muck and mire. You don't belong there. You are the leader of your life and belong on the top of your mountain.
2. When you are looking in the past for answers to building a new future, it is a "no win" situation. Planning a future from past history is non-productive. It is going in circles expecting something new to develop without investing in development. The scenery may change, but the past patterns still show up. It is time to get out of the cage to explore new possibilities.
A future possibility requires new thinking and new strategies. Not that you throw "the baby out with the bath water," but you choose wisely what works (the baby) and get rid of the rest (the water).
As the leader of your life here are some questions to explore in accessing answers to the future you really want:
• What is your passion?
• If you were taking action living from what's important to you, what would you be doing?
• What is it to live life from self-leadership versus expectations from others?
• What are you resisting?
• What is it to transcend your sense of resignation of "I can't"?
• What difference would it make to transform, lead and love what you do from a place of "I can"?
You are the leader of your life. You get to choose. Remember: Anything is Possible!
"It is difficulties that show what men are." - Epictetus (55AD-135AD) Greek philosopher
