Tips to Help You Stand Up, Step Up and Play Big as a Leader
"Becoming a leader is synonymous with becoming yourself. It is precisely that simple, and it is also that difficult." -Warren G. Bennis (American Scholar, organizational consultant, author)
As a leader in your industry, what is your definition of "stand up - step up and play big?" Leaders are clear as to what game they are playing. They are visionaries. Visionaries use their imagination. They are able to connect with their intuition aka "gut feelings," and are aware of the challenges. They know where they are going, how they are going to get there and who they want as followers.
You may or may not have clarity on the professional leadership game you want to step into and win. It is imperative to know where you are going. Without knowing which game to play, how will you know what direction you are going and how will you know when you get there? Studies show that individuals who are successful in America are visionaries with goals. These masters of success started with a vision and comprise only 3% of the population. 97% of Americans fail because they fail to set long-term goals driven by a compelling vision.
What would it be like to be among the top 3% of winners? The three per-centers at the top started with a dream of where they wanted to go and imagined winning. In the beginning their dream may have started on a small scale, but as time went on it grew larger and larger.
Bill Gates without question is a prime example of someone who is in the 3% winners circle because he had a vision. When Bill Gates was a teenager he "envisioned the impact that low-cost computers could have." That vision grew into Microsoft's corporate mission to have "a computer on every desk and in every home."
Regardless if you are a just starting to investigate what's next for you or doing a lot of work with minimal results, your dream, your vision, needs power behind it. That power is your passion and belief that you can do it. The sad thing is that the majority of people don't see the light within. Their dreams are dimmed; buried over with confusion, doubt, fear and uncertainty. In a recent report by the Conference Board, only 45% of Americans are satisfied with their work, the lowest level recorded by the research group in two decades. 55% of workers are dissatisfied! Where is the passion and commitment doing a job that is empty and meaningless?
"Never continue in a job you don't enjoy. If you're happy in what you're doing, you'll like yourself, you'll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have more success than you could possibly have imagined." - Rodan of Alexandria (Greek Philosopher)
Having enthusiasm and belief in your vision has an enormous impact on being successful. The follow-up is to get off the bench as a spectator and get on the playing field. Do you or do you not want to be in the 3% winners circle?
Stand up - Step Up and Play Big Questions & Tips
• What does it mean to you to Stand Up - Step Up and Play Big? When answering this question go within to your deeper self. The answer comes from within. Use meditation to access your inner knowingness. Meditation can be going for a walk in a serene environment, sitting still and letting go of mindless chatter, exercising, yoga, journaling without editing, or whichever way you quiet your mind to allow your truth to come through.
• What is your vision? What is the difference you want to make? Why? If you are uncertain to what your vision is, look outside into the world and notice what upsets you. Is it the government? Is it the environment? Is it business? Is it the homeless? Where is it you would like to see a change? What if you could change the circumstance - what would that change be?
• Visions are transcending. They are intended to create new realities. But a vision alone is just that - a dream. Many a dream has never left the launching pad of one's mind. It is buried under the carnage of doubt and fear. Become an active player in your vision and play big in spite of your fear! The more you take action on your vision, the more opportunities you generate to win.
• Build new winning thoughts by focusing on successes. Look at failures as feedback. Use the information to come up with new game strategies.
• Empty your mind from negative thinking and replace thoughts with positive affirmations such as:
- I choose the right action for every decision I make.
- I have a clear mind that refuses to give attention to any negativity that may enter it.
- I am the executive of my life. I think through my day with a keen, sharp mind that sees all details.
- I think of the things I want and see them as already accomplished
