Who Is Responsible For Your Choices?
"If we have the courage to look at the social and political forces in the world as reflections of the forces at work within each of us, we can more effectively take responsibility not only for our own personal healing, but for the healing of the planet." -Shakti Gawain
Who is responsible for your life - your career - your choices? That may seem like a silly question, but often there is a victim mentally from people who choose to blame others. The others may be your parents; or the spouse that left you broke and broken-hearted. The other to blame for your hardship might be an employer who let you go for whatever reason; or a friend who betrayed you; or whatever calamity you choose to blame on another.
Funny thing, when you target someone or something else for your misfortune, it only adds more goop to the mess. It makes the muddy water even muddier with deposits of toxic victim mentality. What possible advantage to your health and peace of mind can blaming someone or a negative event provide? Blaming others is a cancerous road. I am a two-time cancer survivor. I chose to see what my part was in being responsible for my treatment. I took the proactive approach and sought people and information that could help. If I would have chosen to feel sorry for myself and taken the role of victim, I don't believe I would have made it; nor would I have been someone people wanted to be around.
Mourn the loss. If it means shouting and screaming into a pillow or finding a place that is available to bellow out and then do it. Stuffing it won't help. If talking to a friend, therapist, or spiritual guide helps, then do it. You have been through challenges before. What thoughts, feelings and actions did you take to get through and move on?
We live in a changing world and especially right now there are plenty of people being blamed for the economic catastrophes being experienced across the continents. Does putting the blame on others solve the problems or does blaming add to the problem? So again, who is responsible for your life, your beliefs, and your actions in turning your life around from victim to choosing to see opportunity within the troubled waters?
You are resourceful. You are the creator of your world through your thoughts, words, and deeds.
Questions to Ask Yourself
1. What do you want to see more of in the world?
2. What difference would it make in healing the planet?
3. Who do you need to be to have more of what you want in the world?
4. What can you control? What is out of your control?
Tips:
- Start with focusing on what you want to change from the perspective of a beginner's mind of a child. The child's mind doesn't have the past negative thinking pulling them into victim mode. It is fearless and curious.
- With the beginner's mind start to draw, write, doddle, mind-map, or create a collage of what you want.
- During the creative process notice your feelings. Do you feel joy or sadness? Your body tells you the truth. Watch when your body feels uncomfortable. Your body is sending you an alarm.
- With feelings of discomfort learn the difference between hesitation to stretch and limiting beliefs.
- It is important to access your power within. Listen to your intuition/gut feeling.
- Use the right side of your brain to visualize and coordinate with the left on creating a plan of action.
- Remember to be fearless and curious - Anything is Possible!
