The value of assessment & constructive feedback

Two teaching hospitals representing Toronto, Canada and Glostrup, Denmark collaborated in a study on effects of assessment and constructive feedback. A group of 16 surgical trainees were split into two groups. Each group performed the same surgical procedure. Their efforts were videotaped. Group 1 was assessed by an experienced surgeon, and specific advice was provided to each trainee. Group 2 received no response on their performance.

The same two teams later performed the same procedure and were videotaped. The tapes were then assessed by two independent and blinded observers using a validated scoring method. The results were amazing (and obvious):

"Surgeons who received constructive feedback made significantly greater improvement in their performance...compared to those (who received no feedback)."

Re: True Characteristics of an Entrepreneur Re: True Characteristics of an Entrepreneur - [quote="RussellWebb":eh2zwia3]Now c'mon Kevin. I think if he gave you a poor score then that would have been an unnecessary slap in the face. Looking at the efforts you put into the paper, which I can safely assume was good stuff, then I would have given you a good grade too. In the end, were his comments accurate in regards to website traffic? I'm curious... I'm in line with IdeasUniversity in that it's always better to test the waters than to NOT and succumbing to the fear of failure. No regrets man! just my opinion...[/quote:eh2zwia3] Hi RussellWebb, Well unlike a kid in elementary or high school, I feel that continuing education students (who are primarily adults working full-time) can handle a "slap in the face" (i.e. the blatant truth). Moreover, I wasn't really taking that eMarketing course to finish my Marketing Diploma, but to get some honest feedback about my marketing/business plan for my online book community at the time. But I agree... the key is to not be deterred by negative feedback, but to use it as constructive criticism and keep moving forward.
Unsecure Neighbourhood Unsecure Neighbourhood - Instead of knocking on their door why don't you leave a letter in their Mailbox in a hand written envelope. You can advise them via the letter that their internet connection is unsecured and write how an unsecured internet connection can affect them. Note: this is time consuming but I'm assuming that your willing to spend the time to drive neighbourhoods to find your target market. People on this forum may be able to assist you in determining how to make more use of your time. Maybe you can post flyers in the neighbourhood stating "This Neighbourhood is Unsecure!" "Your Internet connections may be at Risk" Call me now for a free assessment of your Wireless Connection at 509-xxx-xxx The free assessment is critical in getting strangers to contact you. I'm sure you'd be able to come up with something more creative and I hope you use this as a launch pad for new ideas. GoodLuck and tell us what you plan on using to attract new clients and the results of your effort - we like helping people that come back with their reuslts (good or not so good).
Re: Can you really get google ads for free? Re: Can you really get google ads for free? - In my original assessment of “Get Google Ads Free” I implied that you’re not really getting free adwords clicks and that the process described in the ebook is not without risk.
How Important is Feedback in eBay? How Important is Feedback in eBay? - Just a couple of questions to answer about eBay purchases that may help people make decisions about eBay decisions...... 1. Have you made eBay purchases? 2. Was the seller's feedback important? 3. Do you sell on eBay? 4. Do you worry about your feedback score? I have bought and sold on eBay. I do consider feedback scores. And I do worry about feedback left for me.
JW Site redesign JW Site redesign - I agree the Font is a little small. Also on the homepage I believe it will be effective for you to display an offer to sample your services - I believe you had one in your previous site. This is only constructive feedback.... I'm not sure about the length of the "quote" page - possibly too many questions. I wouldn't fill it out after seeing it but would pick up the phone to call you and deliver my thoughts over the phone. Maybe if you reduce the questions down to three/five questions without me having to explain in detail what I am looking for - I would complete it. One of your final questions would be: what's the best time to contact you? You can call the prospect then to get more details and you would record it during that session. I did this when I ran my webdesign company and it worked really well. my questions were: Name? Telephone? Email? Briefly describe your ideal website? Best day and time to call? I captured the details during the call-back.
