Entrepreneur Strategies: Fast and Smart

The world has changed. The world of business has changed. The kids who were raised on Nintendo are now the ones calling the shots in business. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way the world turns now. The two common denominators that have converged are: competition is greater than ever on a global scale and the moment to get your message across is briefer than ever before. Here is what to post on your office wall: STAKES HIGHER………………………………MOMENT BRIEFER That’s it in a nutshell! Those who win at the game of business, the entrepreneurs who sit at the top of the hill are those of you who can sell with an understanding of today’s psychological consumer profile. You need to know what moves people to take action. The answer has two parts: people will buy when they have to stop and think and when something touches their hearts. Your job is then so simple: grab their attention and then make them laugh or cry. One without the other will fall flat. So, do your homework. Get your message to massage the whole brain. Information without emotion will get a shrug and emotion without information will get ignored. The success of Twitter is that it is a whole brain phenomenon. The tweets that go viral have the both/and imbedded in the sound bite. So, think about what you have to say and then whittle it down to the smallest unit of energy you can. Think about the paradox of nuclear energy: the smallest unit of matter has in it the power to destroy or heal the planet. Keep at it and you will find the core, the sound bite that tells your story with heart and meaning!

Developing leaders and transforming teams is my speciality. As a clinical psychologist I know that we bring the behaviors we learned in our original organization, the family, into our present work organization. The key to leadership is understanding how individuals form a system and how that system impacts the bottom line. I have worked globally and find that the core of relationships is much the same whether in California, China,or Chile. My book "Don't Bring It to Work (Jossey Bass) offers tools and strategies for developing collaborative work cultures and important core techniques for entrepreneurs to have motivated and fast moving teams. I am a speaker at national conferences, radio, and television. You can follow my blogs at  http://www.sylvialafair.com/blog/ . Sometimes we have to get off the horse before it dies under us I can recall offering data service to banks, mortgage companies, and others before the data became available on the internet. Even though I had a better mousetrap, I was not ready for the glamor of the internet and let my system die a natural death
