GUTSY Women Entrepreneurs

Guest post by: Sylvia Lafair

Article Overview: Entrepreneurs, male and female are really more the same than they are different. They are adventurers who love a challenge. Give them a place to showcase their skills and they are there, front and center. The task for this era is to find a new balance point for men and women to talk with each other in a more equal way. The real challenge is to find ways to see with new eyes rather than to use old, boring language to listen and respond more effectively and easily.

GUTSY Women Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs, male and female are really more the same than they are different.

Hey, all you GUTSY women out there, your task is to tell the men, as well as the other women you work with what you want and need. No more hiding behind the old stuff that the playing field is not level, it is. No more talking about the fears of the past, stuff like, no one is giving you an opportunity, that the guys have all the best chances. Not so, no way, not any more.

Women, just so you men reading this can understand, are relentlessly showing up to scale the heights even when they aren't sure if they can make it. The journey is the challenge and more women are more capable of formulating a business plan and asking for what they need than ever before.

In the past women thought the way to the top was to be like a man. Way back in the ‘70's and into the ‘80's there were suits with shoulder padding to look more, square, more competent. Thanks goodness that "dress for success" baloney is a thing of the past.

The big question women are asking now (and I might add many men are joining in here) is to question how much is enough, what is the down side of success, what, in fact, does success really mean.

Women are demanding dialogues to these questions as well as those that make all of us stop to think about the reason to kave children and how to find a sensible balance between parents so that we do not ever again have a generation of latch key kids.

Right now women are requesting time to bond with other women, to network, to find time to rejuvenate, and reinvigorate. In response to this we are starting GUTSY WOMEN week-end retreats. You can find out more at the ceoptions website.

In the future there will be retreats for entrepreneurial couples who want to be at the forefront of new ways of fostering the best possible relationships both at work and at home.

Developing leaders and transforming teams is my speciality. As a clinical psychologist I know that we bring the behaviors we learned in our original organization, the family, into our present work organization. The key to leadership is understanding how individuals form a system and how that system impacts the bottom line. I have worked globally and find that the core of relationships is much the same whether in California, China,or Chile. My book "Don't Bring It to Work (Jossey Bass) offers tools and strategies for developing collaborative work cultures and important core techniques for entrepreneurs to have motivated and fast moving teams. I am a speaker at national conferences, radio, and television. You can follow my blogs at  http://www.sylvialafair.com/blog/ . As much as I wanted a house pet when I was small, my parents quite rightly decided against it as they were both working and it wouldn’t be fair. You will also have noticed amongst our topics that we have a Women Entrepreneurs section which I hope you will find useful. regards, Mal.
