Secrets For Making the Law of Attraction Work For You

Secrets For Making the Law of Attraction Work For You

There's been a recent explosion of awareness regarding "The Law of Attraction."  You probably know of at least one of the several films and books that have become international hits that explore "The Law" such as What the Bleep Do We Know!?, The Secret (both book and film), and The Prayer of Jabez. The success of these films and books reflect the strong interest that people have in understanding "The Law of Attraction" and their desire to have its powerful effect manifest in their lives.

You may be wondering, what is the Law of Attraction?  Or why would I want to use it in my life?

Most simply, The Law of Attraction takes the concept that like attracts like and applies it to conscious desire. In other words, your thoughts determine your experience.

If you are already familiar with The Law of Attraction you may have already begun to apply its four simple steps to your life:

  1. Ask - Know what you desire and ask the universe for it.
  2. Believe - Focus your thoughts upon that which is desired with great feeling, such as enthusiasm or gratitude.
  3. Feel - Feel and behave as if the object of your desire is already acquired.
  4. Receive - Be open to receiving it.

If you have been using these principals in your own life, you may be wondering; why isn't it working for me?  How come I'm not getting what I want?  Why does The Law of Attraction work for others but not for me?

If you hear yourself in any of the above complaints, it is not because The Law of Attraction isn't working for you. The Law of Attraction is working all the time for everyone. If the results are not what you wanted them to be, it is time to check yourself on all four steps.

The truth is, there is a very important Secret to The Secret.

The easiest place to mis-apply one of the four steps is at the beginning. It is very important to be clear about what you are asking. The Law of Attraction says this: Everything that is coming into your life, you are attracting into your life. If what is coming into your life is not making you happy, then you must not be asking for what will make you happy.

I have found that many people have what they thought they wanted in their work, personal and social lives, but are not happy with it. In the face of unhappiness most people assume that there is something wrong with them. They ask, "What is wrong with me that I can't be happy when I have a great (job, relationship, etc.)?" - rather than look at what is wrong with their choices or goals.  They further ask, "Why have I chosen a career that I do not enjoy? Why have I chosen to live with someone who does not value me?" In these cases the person has received what they set out to get.  The problem is that what they set out to get is not in congruence with who they are.

I believe that the key to successfully using The Law of Attraction is setting goals and making choices that are fully and completely grounded in who you are and how you see the world.

Sounds simple and it is... once you know and understand your Perceptual Style.

Your Perceptual Style is the way you absorb information through your five senses to make that information meaningful to you. Your Perceptual Style acts as a filter between sensation and understanding. It is at the core of who you are, and it impacts your values, your beliefs, your feelings and your psychology. The decisions you make, the actions you take and the directions you choose are all influenced by your Perceptual Style because it defines reality for you. And, because of your Perceptual Style, you have natural skills and talents at which you can easily excel when you use them consciously!

Perceptual Style and The Law of Attraction

What all this has to do with The Law of Attraction is really quite simple. If you are always attracting those things to your life that are incongruent with your Perceptual Style, they will not make you happy. It is easy to lose touch with your Perceptual Style and the skills, talents and roles it supports. There are many forces in our world that work purposefully and haphazardly that obscure that which we are gifted at doing and being.

When you are out of touch with your Perceptual Style and the natural gifts it bestows, it is easy to start asking for things and attracting people into your life that will not contribute to your happiness, fulfillment and contentment.  For example, if you are a bird who has been taught that the key to happiness is to learn how to swim, the activities you engage perform and the people you attract are not going to support you learning how to soar through the air and glide on the wind.

The key to making The Law of Attraction work positively for you is to know your Perceptual Style and learn the skills, talents and roles it naturally supports. Knowing what activities provide natural fulfillment will allow you to ask, believe, feel and receive relationships, activities, work and hobbies that allow you to excel and are totally, soulfully satisfying. When you are consciously aligned with your Perceptual Style, The Law of Attraction will work effortlessly and positively for you.
