10 Good Goals for A New Business

What are some good goals for business?

If you are new to small business, and this is your very first business you have created – a hearty congratulations to you!

Congratulations to you for making that personal leap of faith! I congratulate you on making your sense of freedom felt to those around you. You will be perceived differently. Your friends will envy you for being you own boss. You will, finally, be the person you thought you would always be.

All these sounds fine and dandy, however the reality is that you are going to draw upon your savings (hopefully, not for too long), work longer hours, and pray a lot. I am not joking when I suggest that you will do a lot of soul-searching, becoming philosophical, and alert to your surroundings.

That said – why did you take the plunge into small business? You had to start from scratch, so being small is the scale you can sensibly make your entry into. Goals are necessary in order to measure your progress (and audit your insanity) and encourage you to go further, for longer.

Here are some suggestions of good goals for business:

1) Stick to your cause: Why did you start business in the first place?

2) Make your cause larger than you.

3) Ask: Whom else does your business benefit?

4) You want to enjoy a new lifestyle that allows you to do more of the things you dreamt of doing.

5) You want to travel to all continents of the world (not all, but you get the picture).

6) You want to realize your potential.

7) You want to be paid exactly what you think that you are worth.

8) You want to achieve your equation of life-work balance.

9) To align your personal values to like-minded individuals.

10) To affirm, confirm and assure yourself that you are doing the right thing.

Review this list of reasons when you experience your share of rejections, disappointments and moments of gloom and doom. The good news is that you can only experience bad news for so long until your process kicks in. Trust in your plans, goals, process and continuous learning – you will see that glimmer of hope and opportunities that will come your way soon!

I wish you the very best in your goals. Remember: never compromise your dreams. Many roads lead to Disneyland.
