Delicate balance between a career and baby

Current statistics show many women are delaying pregnancy until their late 20's or into their 30's. One of the reasons cited is because they want to develop their career before settling down to start a family. This situation raises many issues but one in particular - by the time large numbers of women decide to have a child it is too late to conceive naturally and they are forced to seek medical intervention.

Women are born with a finite number of eggs. Unlike sperm, eggs do not generate. They deteriorate and 10 years before women actually enter into menopause the quality of their eggs has reached significant decline. The optimum time for women to conceive is in their 20's. While the trend of having babies later is increasing there could be a growing need for assisted reproductive technology. At a recent function I was particularly interested in listening to a professional discuss women and infertility and the way that she has assisted many couples, who would otherwise probably never have had children to conceive and to be able to have their dream of parenting come true. She spoke about the dilemmas many women find themselves in now because of the work/family issue. On one hand, they want to develop a career and purchase a house. At the same time, their biological clock is ticking away.

She says many leave it too late and are often devastated when they are unable to have a child. So, what does this delay mean for women? It means many women will never have children and are traumatised by this situation. It also means that while IVF has made significant inroads into fertility in the past five years it cannot fix every fertility problem.

Women can be shattered when they cannot have a child and some regret it for the rest of their lives. It is important for women of any age to be given accurate details about their fertility so a true choice can be made. They need to know that they can't automatically assume they can delay pregnancy and then get IVF to fix it.

Re: A great Women's Industry Re: A great Women's Industry - Actually as far as "women" industries are concerned, I've noticed more specialty niches popping up for products for new mom's etc. There's a woman on Twitter who even specializes in product for aunties. Now that more baby products are popping up to help new moms - wrking moms etc - I see that as a women's industry that women can REALLY own. Adding a blog for new moms will never get old. Babies are born every day and we all know - it's easy to get pregnant (for most) but what to do when the baby comes?
Re: America's 9 Most Stolen Products Re: America's 9 Most Stolen Products - Hi Evan, Thanks for the article, I must admit I also found some of the things on the list rather surprising. You would naturally expect things like jewellery and gadgets to have appeal because of the quick sell on factor but you don’t think of baby formula being on a thief’s list but then again baby formula is an essential shopping item to young families. I was amused to read about the meat thefts and the excuses that people give when they are caught. I could visualise those concerned as they were making their pathetic excuses trying to explain why they had put on several pounds in all the wrong places, thanks for the chuckle, regards, Mal.
Re: Balancing Your Man & Business Re: Balancing Your Man & Business - This is SOOOO real. . Keeping first things first has kept the balance. First God, then everything else. When I start the day with prayer and meditation, I prioritize better. There are certain things I must do each day in business but I remember to schedule quality time with my mate AND I'm attentive too. I noticed when I don't put God first, I struggle to keep a balance and wonder how we'll add kids to the paradigm. When I do it right EVERYTHING falls into place. Besides that, we BOTH really ENJOY business. We're both self-employed. I like this thread. This has been BIG discussion with us of late. We've both gotten MUCH better. It's no small thing either.
Re: Finding AND Keeping Good People Re: Finding AND Keeping Good People - Employee retention or as you mention “Keeping the Good People” is one of the biggest challenges for any growing business. It takes a huge effort from the entrepreneur’s end. I can come up with the following when it comes to KEEPing the good people- 1. Motivation of the employees 2. Recognition of the needs of the employees 3. Activities to make the employees feel valuable towards the organization 4. Make benefits more accessible 5. Offer profit sharing incentives 6. Create clear career paths at the company 7. Consider telecommuting, job sharing and other flexible working arrangements 8. Incentives are essential and they don't have to be huge 9. Have other managers praise an employee's work 10. Be sensitive to the balance between work and private life
Credit card management Credit card management - Too many people - usually young people, but it can strike anyone - mismanage their credit cards and end up spending more than half their paycheck each month on credit card bills - and only paying the interest, besides! Don't let this happen to you! Don't carry a balance at all. Pay off your card every month so you don't have to pay interest on the balance. If you can't afford something in one month's payment - save up until you have enough to pay for it. Otherwise, that item you buy will usually end up costing you twice as much again in interest fees.
