Are you the Boss? -- Tao of Leadership

"I'm the boss!" Statement does sound familiar to you? What you get to hear people say you are?

If so, I fear this well do not augur well for his leadership. Looks like your children to tell "I am your father to be!" So they would respect you as a parent. Some link is missing.

Lao Tzu's definition:

The best leaders are those people hardly know exist.

The next best one leader who is loved and admired.

The next one who comes fear.

One leader said the worst is trivial.

Tao's perspective, its best leadership style so naturally that people hardly know that the leader is present. People follow without thinking that they are following.

Not mean that such leaders are always pleasing and disarming. They're tough, or can even more difficult than other leaders. The main point is that they are exploiting their public nature, the following people are happy and whole heartedly.

The best leaders know how nature works in people.

According to Tao, to create works for you the perfect combination of three key elements of nature can have: time, space and relationship. So long as an element is not correct, nature works against you.

Let's Take an example.

As a leader, there are occasions when you can to get things done immediately. Yet there are occasions when you just have to wait.

Sometimes you're like a hunter spotting prey. Out you rifle, take aim and shoot. Lo and behold, you've got the game! Immediate results, because the time coincides with the element of space and relationships.

Sometimes you're like a farmer. As long as you soil, seeds, water the plant seedlings - and yet nothing happens.

No immediate results, because time does not coincide with space and relationships. You will have to wait for. The month before you can reap the fruit; can work on while the other two elements - space and the relationship - making it possible to harvest when the time is right.

In both cases, you have to respect the element of time. Whether you work fast or have not decided that you should wait patiently. It is decided by nature.

Leaders do not understand if they are disappointed.

Many leaders, things quickly - almost yesterday without giving time to want to room - space and the relationship to mature.

Remember, there are occasions when you can get what you want people immediately, there are still occasions when you nurture and conditions need to wait for the right time. Like a farmer till the soil, water plant so that the crop would see, as a leader, nurture trust you have built systems, and wait for the right time to act.

If you measure the position and the right to bulldoze through things and not respect the laws of nature, you just might get done but the best results. You're green, rather than fruit can.

Law of nature is only when you follow your leadership will grow!

Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - Hi Everyone, Gosh, I REALLY appreciate your concrete feedback. This was far more than I expected and I'm glad you said what you thought straight out. Each of you have shared something of value and I want to take some more time to think and really go over what each of you have said. However, I can see there are some things I need to change right away. What an interesting point about a NEW program perhaps making people think they are guinea pigs! This is NOT what I want to convey! It's funny how we can see some things so clearly in others while not always seeing it for ourselves! I must admit there are a few things I've been meaning to change (like my bio which is very outdated). Obviously, these things need to be higher on my priority list. You caught me like the plumber who puts his clients first and doesn't get around to fixing his own tap! As far as my target market, I do feel quite strongly about working with Women Leaders and doing Leadership Coaching with them. It's non-negotiable in my books. In my Executive Coaching training, the terms "Leaders" and "Executives" are interchangable. To me, an Executive is a Leader and so is the Business Woman or Entrepreneur who is CEO of her own business. I love working with decision makers! What I did learn is that I need to avoid opening up the Leadership term beyond what I described above. I'm also wondering if there is a misunderstanding with the general public as to what Leadership Coaching really is. Leadership Coaching is all about developing your leadership skills, both as a people manager and in more effectively running and growing the business. There is ALWAYS room for growth in some way. As well, sometimes, we just need a sounding board to clarify what our next BEST step is. In fact, if a woman thinks she has nothing to work on, then we aren't a good Client/Coach fit anyway. How can she grow if she doesn't see the value of expressing ALL of the great ability within her? How can her company grow if she doesn't see the value of strategic planning for the next best level? Thanks again to you all! I will go back to my website and really question whether I am conveying the right message. I got more than I bargained for in this Spotlight... you generously offered way more than I was asking. I think we could be on to something great for the Forum. Now it's time to let someone else have the spotlight. It would be great if everyone took a turn! In gratitude, Tami

Re: Books You Wish Had Been Written Re: Books You Wish Had Been Written - How did I miss this topic for so long!! haa haa I love it. Ok - procrastinate constructively - I'd probably buy that but then put off reading it...haa haa Hmm...I think someone should write a book about being a sometimes reluctant entrepreneur, or perhaps the reality of business ownership and PMS as a woman in business. kidding aside...I have an extensive library but I would love to see a book that really lays out the emotional side of business ownership. What to prepare for etc. I get the tools and information from reading a lot of biographies but somedays, I would love to go to my library and pull out a reference for 'one the days you dont feel like being the Boss etc..."or 'how to keep your game face on for your staff when stuff doesnt go right. I had a meeting today with a prospect and he was really candid, he said "i want my business to be doing better but I'm not sure if I have it in me today...." Instead of a sales meeting - we went for a heart to heart entrepreneurship coffee. Best 'meeting' I have had in forever!!
