AN ENGINEER OF 76 YEARS …..LEARN LEADERSHIP LESSONS

Guest post by: Dr Shailesh Thaker

Article Overview: A dam or embankment is built to keep the water in, which freezes at night and remains frozen in the absence of direct sunlight. This water remains frozen until March, when the start of summer melts the new glacier and releases the water into the rivers downside.

AN ENGINEER OF 76 YEARS …..LEARN LEADERSHIP LESSONS

A retired Indian engineer, Chewang Norphel, 76, has built 12 new glaciers already and is racing to create five more before he dies, and by then he hopes to train enough new ‘icemen’ to continue the work he is doing to save the world’s ‘third icecap’ from being transformed into rivers, reports Telegraph. His race against time is shared by Manmohan Singh, the Indian Prime Minister, who called on the region’s Himalayan nations, including China, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan, to constitute a united front to tackle glacial melting.

The Himalayan glaciers, including Kashmir’s Siachen glacier, feed the region’s most important rivers, as they irrigate farm lands in Tibet, Nepal and Bangladesh and throughout the Indian subcontinent. The acceleration in glacial melting has been blamed as the reason for the increase in floods that have destroyed homes and crops.

But Chewang Norphel, the “Iceman of Ladakh”, believes that he has an answer.

By diverting melt water through a network of pipes into artificial lakes in the shaded side of mountain valleys, Norphel states that he has created new glaciers.

His glaciers have been able to each store up to one million cubic feet of ice, which in turn can irrigate 200 hectares of farm land. This can make the difference between crop failure and a bumper crop of more than 1,000 tons of wheat for the farmers.

Norphel says that he has seen the effects of global warming on farmland as snows have become thinner on the ground and ice rivers have melted away.

His work has now been recognized by the Indian government, which has given him 16,000 pounds to build five new glaciers. But time is his enemy, he told The Hindustan Times. “I’m planning to train villagers with instruction CDs that I have made, so that I can pass on the knowledge before I die,” he said.

Re: Is Ewen Chia a SCAM artist? Re: Is Ewen Chia a SCAM artist? - Hi T.J. Ewen Chia is not a scam artist, he is a very good internet marketer, and considered a guru. Why? Because he is. He spent YEARS, before making his real money, all real gurus did, they just don't let you know that in their sales letter, this is why it's called sales letter, they only tell you how much money they make, with out sharing the hard work, the sleepless nights, and all the failures on the way to success. He manged to build a name for himself, and many internet marketer follow him - that's a guru. I never bought one of his books, but you DID made some sales, so it must be working for you. If you keep following his weekly plan, your sales will grow, and maybe one day you will share with others how you made your first million. Ewen Chia, started with a PIPS site like me and and like 3 other moderators here in the forum, and many other members in this forum. Many people never get to keep their websites, some stick with it, and the strong ones, take off and build a business. Last, if you are not happy you can always ask for a refund.
How do you "Give Back To the local or world Community?" How do you "Give Back To the local or world Community?" - Elie Wiesel: This is the duty of our generation as we enter the twenty-first century -- solidarity with the weak, the persecuted, the lonely, the sick, and those in despair. It is expressed by the desire to give a noble and humanizing meaning to a community in which all members will define themselves not by their own identity but by that of others. We want to know what you do to give back to your community. When we say "Community" we mean the Human Community . . .around the corner or around the globe. Don't be humble here . . .This is where we'll all learn from each other. Don't be selfish . . .You BRAG we LEARN. Let's help each other ALL make a difference. . . . One person at a time. If you're not involved now, maybe you could learn how right here. It's never too late to do good.
Re: About: product production! Re: About: product production! - Hey everyone. Thanks for your posts and all your help. I have learned quite a bit from this. in my case, I am thinking it is absolutely necessary to patent my invention, because it will be licensed to sell. I'd like to try and stay positive throughout this whole process of 'God knows' how long it will take. I am willing to experience failure or disappointments if it doesn't work out....so that I can LEARN from any mistake and be educated 10 times more than I was before I began the journey., and so that I can at least say that "I TRIED!" If I don't try and believe in my self and product, I will never know if I will be successful or not! So I really must try and see what happens. My ultimate goal...is to but it is to really give the people this thing that they NEED. I'd like to believe that people don't even know or realize that they need this yet. Something they burn/desire to have and hopefully I can accomplish this dream and inspire others some day to do the same. [quote="MichelleJ":vu89zxuu] All of this is new to me as far as patents etc goes, bit I have one question. If someone copies you patented item, but changes one or two details on it, can you still claim that they have stolen your patent? MichelleJ[/quote:vu89zxuu] That's a really good question and something important to know...I wonder the same.

That is an attitude that can destroy a business. That's especially true with online businesses since the technology and the opportunities change so quickly and the people who stay current will rise to the top and businesses that lag behind in knowledge and ability will not survive long term.
