LEADERHIP: IF NOT NOW ….THEN…WHEN……????

Article Overview: Time is the greatest resource available to mankind .Come to think of it, when our planet earth was formed millions of years ago and thereafter for many centuries, there was no concept of time. The reason probably was that there was no need for measuring the activities performed by the creatures then in terms of the results.. The sole motive of the living creatures was just that-Living. And to do any other activity connected to survival.

LEADERHIP: IF NOT NOW ….THEN…WHEN……????



Who invented the concept of time to mankind is anybody's guess. But in today's world, time is a critical component of our existence. Every single day spent in our life translates into some activity which should enrich our existence on earth.

But does it happen?

We have to ask following "how profitably we utilize time or in today's management parlance, is our Time Management effective?

In this context, the practice of ‘Procrastination' needs to be examined critically. Since there is always a tomorrow in our life for performing any task, we are inclined to postpone anything which we think is ‘difficult' and ‘time consuming' in our opinion. We therefore, create a need to postpone it for some other day when situation will be more ‘conducive' to attend to it.

For any result-oriented person, this tendency can prove to be disastrous. Many an important function may be postponed for the next day and then the day after and so on. It can also land the organization the leader is working for, into great trouble. Implementing an important decision gets delayed resulting in cost escalation which any organization can ill afford in today's competitive world where a penny saved is penny earned. Such tendency of procrastination can also lead to loss of credibility in the market which in turn can result into losing the business to our more alert competitors.

In the light of the above, every corporate leader must do a regular reality check if he is the 'victim' of this most common but greatly dangerous tendency.

The simple truth is that TODAY is the only reality and tomorrow is in the realm of a possibility whether it is one's personal life or a Business Corporate life. The consequences are the same for both possibly with some difference in the gravity thereof.

Every single day when confronted with a so called ‘difficult' issue, he must ask himself the question:

"IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN?"

The approach can save many sleepless nights for him and his organization!!
