what is the role of leader in the organisation.?

Leadership matters even more when you have to symbolize purpose and values as well as look to the future. People look at what leaders do, not just what they say. So leaders have to model the values. They have to put their investments behind the sense of purpose. If P&G had let the Children’s Safe Water program wither just on financial grounds, employees would have looked at top management and said, “You don’t mean those words.”

They need to be great systems thinkers.

They’ve always needed that, but they need it even more as they look beyond the walls of the company. They manage their purpose through networks of partners. In fact, one of the values of these companies is end-to-end responsibility, the idea that you are responsible for your supplier’s supplier and your customer’s customer.

We also need leaders who are relationship-oriented, willing to have partners sit at the table, willing to sometimes put their own ego in check. Leaders need to feel they are safeguarding the future of the institution, not just managing a current portfolio of assets. These leaders have a sense of now and of generations to come.

Sam Palmisano said in one of the quotes I like best in the book: “Managers come and go, the business portfolio changes, so the only thing that endures is our culture.”

Re: Are we defined by what we do for a living? Re: Are we defined by what we do for a living? - Interesting subject - as you know Kevin, I've discussed some of Eckart Tolle's materials before and this topic is covered in his latest book. In particular - The roles we play in society and our identification with the role. His warning is to be aware of your different roles and not get to wrapped up in your identity with the role. One example he uses is the Doctor who looks at patients as statistics and merely a case #. When this happens, the doctor no longer views the patient as an emotional being and more of a case study. The point is - that the doctor is so identified with his role that he has lost touch with the spririt and essence of the human lying in front of him. When we get too attached to our roles - even as parents - we tend to take them very seriously and believe in the role, for example, perceiving a child as uneducated and in need of constant supervision, when in fact the child is very aware and often living more consciously than the adult. The roles have value, just be aware that it's a role. Are we defined by what we do for a living? Only if we are unconscious of the roles we play. You can still have fun with it - just be aware.
Re: The Celebrity Apprentice Finale Re: The Celebrity Apprentice Finale - [quote="Tami Szabo":2pue96vy]I agree that I would have loved to have seen Piers and Carol on the homestretch together. It would have been VERY interesting. Speaking of interesting... I noticed you could imagine Carol in either role of leader or partner. That's the ideal person I like to work with. When I asked you about who you wanted to work with, I forgot to clarify that I meant in a "leadership" capacity. However, I see what you mean about Jennie and Lennox being great co-workers. I don't see them as leaders either, but definitely people who would be great to have at my side.[/quote:2pue96vy] Hi Tami, I'm the type of person who responds better to "leaders" who are respectful and trust in my abilities, so I don't think I'd like it if Piers was calling me names, pressuring Stephen while he was trying to sell tickets or overstepping on Carol's duties (e.g. Carol was responsible for the food, but Piers instructed the staff to with hold it so that the guest would get drunk faster). I don't like leaders who feel the need to micro-manage because if they think they can do the job better themselves, then why ask someone else to do it in the first place? Back in school a long time ago... I think we did a personality test and I turned out to be a "negative leader" or "negative follower", haha. I can't really recall what either means, but the other outcomes would've been a "positive leader" or "positive follower".

Hunter or Farmer - Born, Bred or Both? Hunter or Farmer - Born, Bred or Both? - Hello everyone, As a sales recruiter, I meet a variety of sales personalities day in and day out. Recently, I met with one candidate who I would characterize as a "Farmer" i.e. wants to work with exisiting accounts, no cold calling, no prospecting but great customer service, follow up and upselling skills. He was having a hard time finding his next role and he asked about a Business Development role we had - a Hunter role i.e. cold calling, aggressive, no (or minimal) account base, territory management, target oriented. He asked if he could apply and said, "I can CHANGE! I cna learn how to hunt. I can do it." My question to you is: Can someone switch roles? Can a farmer be a hunter? Can a hunter be happy just farming? Thoughts?
Key Components Key Components - Two key components for success in network marketing are passion and leadership. As others have said, you have to believe in, or be passionate about, what you are selling. But, just as important, is the development of leadership skills. People want to work with a leader -- someone who can show them the way. So you must take the time to study and become a leader if you want to meet with real success in the network marketing industry.
