10 Principles I've Learned in Life

Written by: Ron Edmondson

Article Overview: My life has changed. In the past few years I’ve transitioned to someone who invests in others and I have people who actually seek my advice. I know that sounds egotistical (which would not be unusual for me), but I don’t mean it that way at all. It’s just that at almost 45 years of age, with a wealth of practical experience; including many negative experiences, I am at a mid-life stage where I have learned some things and, because I believe so strongly in sharing experiences, people sometimes seek out mine. Looking back over my life I now think often, “I wish I had known then what I know now”.

10 Principles I've Learned in Life

My life has changed. In the past few years I’ve transitioned to someone who invests in others and I have people who actually seek my advice. I know that sounds egotistical (which would not be unusual for me), but I don’t mean it that way at all. It’s just that at almost 46 years of age, with a wealth of practical experience; including many negative experiences, I am at a mid-life stage where I have learned some things and, because I believe so strongly in sharing experiences, people sometimes seek out mine.Looking back over my life I now think often, “I wish I had known then what I know now”.

So, here are a few of those things I have learned. If you are 35 and under, this is some advice I’d love to share with you.You may not take it as seriously as I want you to, because I never did when I was that age, but I hope you do.I know now that this is valuable information.I only wish I had known it back then.

1.All experiences, good or bad, shape us for life.Don’t let any of them pass you by without learning something.

2.Stay in physical and spiritual shape throughout your life.It is much easier to maintain than to try and get back in shape.

3.If you have a strong passion to do something, (and it is honorable) be willing to risk everything to do it.You can always recover if you fail and, if you fail, you will learn valuable lessons in the process.Someone once said to me, ask yourself: What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?Do that!

4.Never quit dreaming.Dreams often fuel the best of life.

5.It goes by fast.Let me say it again, because you read that too quickly.IT GOES BY FAST!

6.Things are usually not as bad as they appear right now.Be patient, make wise decisions, and it will get better.

7.You will look back and wish you had done some things more and some things less.Figure out those what those things are now and prioritize your life accordingly.

8.Let a few people into the deepest parts of your life. Allow yourself to be vulnerable with a select few. There will be a time when this is needed.(Trust me.)

9.Make relationship decisions carefully.

10.Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.(Proverbs 4:23)

Now, I’m looking for someone in their late 50’s or older to share their list like this with me.Anyone?

The Second Life Platform The Second Life Platform - Greetings! I'm not sure how many of you have heard of or are sensitive to Second Life and its related entities. However, Second Life is a fantastic platform to mimmick real life business operations in a real currency based economy. There are plenty of successful stories for creative individuals, but I'd highly suggest doing your research and appreciating Second Life for what it is, and what it isn't.

So are you currently a member? And more importantly, have you tried to open a store front in that virtual world?
Re: Charge what you're worth Re: Charge what you're worth -
People will pay you what you ask. Very few will ever up the price. You are the one who decided what you are worth. The key is that we believe our services are worth the price we are asking.[/quote:292ze3jd] Hi Tami, You're absolutely right. In "Think and Grow Rich", Jessie B. Rittenhouse says "For Life is a just employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task. I worked for a menial's hire Only to learn, dismayed , That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly paid" (Napoleon Hill 35). I think the same can be said when setting prices on eBay or Craigslist, especially when people are trying to haggle you.
Re: Favorite Christmas movies Re: Favorite Christmas movies -
I do have to say I've never liked[i:1rxsgr0t] It's A Wonderful Life[/i:1rxsgr0t]. He spends all his life having his hopes and dreams shattered, feeling miserable, and its only at the end of his life that he can look back and realize how many friends he has, etc. But that doesn't change the fact that up until that point he was miserable![/quote:1rxsgr0t] I love the sentimentality around watching that movie with your Mom! Chtistmas is made up of all those sentimental things. "It's A Wonderful Life" is all about perspective, much in the same way that Scrooge is 'realigned' in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" - which I listen to on CD every year (sometimes twice!) Happy Christmas Everyone! Regards Martin
Re: Great start, but no finish Re: Great start, but no finish - Hi Guys, I always, always recommend a starter upper read THe E-Myth by Michael Gerber. Many of those that decide to start something dont realize how much work, and how multifaceted running and building a real company is. This books shows people the ins and outs in a simple and effective way. As far as commitment goes, they have to be willing to become lifelong learners. If they arent willing to do that, I have very little hope in their businesses getting past the 1 year mark. There's alot of self reflection that has to go into starting a business, and recreating your life essentially. I also recommend books and resources like The Success Principles by Jack Canfield.
