A growth mindset stems from a cellular approach
At a cellular level we have two survival mechanisms; growth and protection. A cell can only be in one mechanism at a time. Therefore, if it is in protection mode it is not growing. With a growth mindset (e.g. one without fear) we stimulate a life-enhancing hormone DHEA that naturally repairs and energises our cells. When we feel fear and a need to protect ourselves, we stimulate Cortisol, a stress hormone that causes us to close down. Long-term exposure to Cortisol damages and kills cells.
Renowned Cellular Biologist Dr. Bruce H. Lipton, demonstrates that the nucleus of a cell can be removed from the cell and still function for a time until it needs to repair itself. He theorises that the real brain of the cell is in the membrane, which interacts with the environment. The cell’s operations are moulded by its interaction with the environment - not its genetic code.
Epigenetics determines engagement - Charisma activates growth
This new field of science is referred to as Epigenetics meaning that 90% of all genes are engaged in co-operation with signals from the environment. What an individual is thinking, feeling and believing is changing the genetic expression and chemical composition of their body on a moment- by- moment basis.
The relevance of this cellular biology for an organisation is to recognise that the quickest way to release or remove resistance from employees is to enable them to switch their mindset from a protection mechanism to a growth mechanism. This instantly opens up their receptiveness to the organisation’s resources.
Charisma activates accelerated growth
Charisma is a natural state that anyone can experience. Charisma enables people to optimise their thinking, their behaviour and their performance. Charisma is an authentic power that connects the heart and mind to remove resistance because the individual is operating in a growth mindset. In the world of sport, this charismatic state is often referred to as The Zone. In business, this charismatic state is called engagement.
5 attributes that determine an individual’s level of charismatic engagement
- Self-Esteem – the extent to which the employee feels valued and respected
- Sensory Awareness – the level of their Emotional Intelligence
- Vision – the extent to which the employee sees their future within the company
- Driving Force – the alignment to the company’s vision
- Energy – the culmination of the power from first 4 attributes
