Procrastination - How to End the Cycle
Procrastination can be the ultimate nemesis. It is one of the leading actions that an individual can inflict upon themselves, haunting their desires to succeed. Not only does procrastination hinder your ability to achieve, it is also the root cause of stress, leaving you to worry about the things you know should have been done.
When you procrastinate, you keep yourself from being proactive in dealing with your current situation or project. Instead, you fall into the opposite position of behaving reactively. Reactive people will make changes based on the problems that have already occurred while proactive people anticipate challenges and make changes to avoid a negative outcome.
In a reactive world you'll find yourself feeling like a victim to your circumstances. Excuses for why you did not do something you know you should have, will surround you. This will leave you feeling helpless to make change for the better. This world is not productive and will not help you to achieve success. You must take the proactive role in every aspect of your life in order to reach your destination.
Here are some practical ways to begin to succeed against procrastination:
- Take accountability for where you are in your current situation.
- Make your mind over to gain the mastery over your schedule and your decisions.
- Define your goals each day and make timelines on when each will be completed.
- Seek out an "accountability partner."
- Be committed to the process. Not the outcome.
