Reactive vs. Proactive & Core Beliefs
"Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny." - Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948), Indian Political and Spiritual Leader
Core values is something often recognized, discussed, and claimed present in the lives of many leaders but very few actually understand what core values really mean.
Simply put: Core values are the essence of a pre-determined value system that has been put in place for the benefit of others.
Many claim to have such a system of belief, but it has often been made with themselves as the centerpiece. That is the exact opposite of what core values represent. Here's an example of what true core values with others in mind:
- I will stand with integrity by your side. Even when public opinion makes it is difficult to do so.
- I will seek first to understand without judgment. Thereafter seek to be understood.
- My commitments and integrity are not swayed by public opinion. I will stand for what is right even if such cost the approval of others in my company.
