Letting Go

One door closes, another one opens. This is a comment about optimism, being positive and looking for opportunity. What isn’t often discussed, though, is how tough it is to let go. The door that closes represents your dreams, ambitions, hopes and your vision on the future. When it closes, all of that goes with it. It doesn't seem to matter that the door that opens is better, more exciting or a dream come true. It still means loss. It’s tough to talk about that loss because everybody around you wants you to focus on the opportunity.
It’s strange to have such mixed feeling when an opportunity presents itself. You think that you should be excited- and you are; kind of.
You think that you should feel on top of the world but you can only get half-way. You wonder what’s wrong with you. Why can’t you feel as excited as everybody else?
We don't like to think about loss and failure. Lots of times the closed door represents a failure at some level- if even only to you. Something you wanted to do or pursue hasn’t worked out. You need to reconcile that in your heart and in your mind. You have to let go. You wonder whether you can trust your judgement this time because, after all, that closed door was once an open door too. What if you’re wrong- again? Then what? A part of you wants to stay behind the closed door- ignorance is bliss. Better the devil you know.
You know you have to walk through the open door. Take a leap of faith. Again. Reach down deep and find the trust in yourself that is there; that got you to this place.
